    Default New Carvin mixing boards

Okay, I'm doing this as a favor for one of my cousins. My other cousin and I sold him an old (mid 80's) 24 track Carvin mixing board back about 18 years ago when we stopped doing sound enforcement and a bit of recording work. The thing had been damn near bulletproof up until about the last couple of years where pots and sliders seem to be going out on nearly a weekly basis.

Anyway, my cousin and his bandmates are looking to replace the old board with a new 32 track (have no idea why they feel the sudden need for the extra 8 channels all of a sudden) and I wanted to know if any of you have experience with the new Carvin electronics, positive or negative.

This is what they are looking at, any input would be appreciated.

Believe it or not, but i am a Peavey fan when it comes to mixers. However, i currently own a 32 Carvin for about 3 years now and it kicks all kinds of ass. You can't go wrong with any of their products.

    Hey, another Peavey fan!

What TAMPA VH said. Carvin means cuality...I mean quality.

Our band has had several pieces of Carvin gear - PAs, speakers, etc. - over the years and it's all been quality, reliable stuff.

Thanks. With the way quality has gone in some brands over the years, you just never know anymore. I figured some of you folks would know whether Carvin was still delivering the goods.

Can't go wrong with ANY Carvin sound reinforcement. Absolute quality stuff. Just for the record if anyone has the same issue regarding the faders or pots going out on their existing board, I found a great product for cleaning them if they decide to sell the old board or just keep it for whatever purpose. It's from CRC, and it's their electrical contact cleaner. Comes in a blue can. It is by far the best on the market. It dries fast with no residue. You just spray it in the fader/ pot (usually there are small holes or vents) and work it back and forth, then give it another blast or two to clean out all the gunk. I did all 24 faders and 300 knobs and buttons on my old Richmond console (some 30+ years on and scratchy and stiff as hell). It took a while but you would not believe the crap that comes out of them, from oxidation, old grease, and many a spilled beer! Once clean they will feel a little dry, but just add a little FaderLube and they will feel as good as new. Old Carvin gear is very sought after, and I bet they could get a pretty penny for it.
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along. If it hadn't been an issue for me to keep it way back when (no space for it), I'd have kept it as it really was a sweet board.

I may just keep that valuble part to myself and try to get them to just give it back to me. I wouldn't mind having it back and working on it, Lord knows what sort of crap it has seen since I last used it. I'd enjoy getting the old board back up and like new again.
