    Default Delay Pedals

I bought a MXR carbon copy analog delay Tuesday and didn't like it and took it back. It sounded like a chorus pedal which I don't need. Curious what others use and recommend.

Ibanez DE 7. Cheap and sounds great, very warm. I set it to echo but the delays are terrific. $69 at MF and other online stores.

I use a Maxon AD-999 Analog Delay. It's a bit pricey, around $300, but is nice and warm sounding with up to 900ms of delay (has 8 BBD's). I used to have a rack-mount Ibanez AD-202 analog delay which I could kick myself for selling back in the early 90's.

I'm surprised you didn't have good results with the MXR Carbon Copy. I've never used one myself but these things have been getting great reviews ever since they were released. Is it possible you had a defective unit? Chorus is a delay-related effect, but I can't imagine a delay pedal sounding only like a chorus pedal.

Tried 'em all over the years, but the DD-3 and DD-5 are the best hands down. Just don't rely on the battery alone. I swear you can hear these things suck the juice out of them! Seriously though they are just great, quiet pedals with lots of flexibility.

I have the Boss DD-6, and it's excellent.

I recently tried the Tech 21 Boost DLA analog delay. SUPER cool! Very simple functions like most Tech 21 stuff, but the basic features offer a lot of versatility. They also make a Boost RVB analog reverb, which I'm likely going to buy to replace my EH Holy Grail.

ooops i meant dd-6 , i was thinking of getting one for my effects chain , i have a dd-3 in my loop for a touch of slight slap back reverb.

i wanted to use it for louder echo on solos and using it for making feedback sounds and such , andrew , does the warp or backwards echo setting sound good?

I've only ever used my DD-6 for regular long-repeating delay effects, mostly live. It can do a slap back and other short delay effects well. I've only ever tried the warp and reverse effects briefly. I remember thinking they sounded cool selectively, but the reverse wasn't nearly as good as some others I've tried.

I have the maxon AD999. It's a great warm pedal. The digital delays sound too metallic for me. I prefer analog but that's just me.

Got to echo (pardon the pun) the sentiments for the DD-5. However, I use lots of long delay pedals and loop specific pedals for looping (hence my user name). I use the DD 5 for short slaps as well as creating delay feedback. For other pedals not specifically designed for looping, the Electro Harmonix memory man is good for analog delay sounds.

There's a guy in the Cincinnati area that hand makes delay and wah pedals at a resonable prices and his stuff is good. Check out this link: http://www.wilsoneffects.com

I love the deluxe memory man...fantastic warm pedal with great big knobs...god bless knobs. It lends itself to playing the pedal itself which is always cool. You should check out the boomerang pedal as well. Delay and looping begin and end with that thing.

The Memory Man rules, but it's big, expensive, lacks long delays, and is very prone to breaking. Mine became a "studio only" pedal for the previously listed reasons.

I'm replacing my memory man pedal for stage use as we speak. On stage I only use the chorus feature and I have two problems with it: it overloads easily, thus distorting, and has a huge footprint. In the group that I'm in right now, these are big negatives. I'm going with the MXR chorus. That said, if/when I play original music in a full band setting, the mem man comes right back onto the pedal board.

I haven't had any breakage issues with it, though I have heard this before. Guess i just got a good one.

What kind of music do you play?
