It's being discussed in another thread, but to answer your question: no, it actually tunes down a half step for every string. It allows you to jump from standard tuning to Eb with the flick of a button.

Kind of handy if you ask me. Kind of a cheesy name, though.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Will be perfect when VH does their tour with both Sam and Dave. That way Ed can playthe Hagar stuff in E, and the Roth stuff in Eb without switching guitars or stopping to retune in between songs. Necessity is the mother of invention!

if these new guitars are in the same price range as the wolfgangs, i'd definately buy one, with the ability to change tunings with ease.

Its actually a great idea, i'm sure he's going to mass market it to the rest of the guitar world.

Doesn't gibson have a guitar that does that? the robot tuning thing???

Actually while I think its a cool idea, I just don't see it being practical for live play. Your bass player will need something similar otherwise he most likely will have to tune on stage.

Actually, it only drops the E string. I just got the issue and ED says himself it only drops the one string for stop tails. Boy, a lot to do about just reaching up and turning a tuner a half twist on a stop tail!

So it drops the one string to D, like a D-Tuna, except on a stop-tail? That's actually really lame.

I *think* the point is you can lock the strings at the nut for tuning stability and still be able to go drop-D. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to lock the strings on any of my hard tail guitars; if they're good instruments with a quality nut, tuning stability shouldn't be much of an issue (it never has been on any of my four hard tail Wolfgangs).

If Ed found it necessary for these new Wolfgangs, that doesn't speak much to their quality.

I agree. I have no idea why that would be considered "dropping to hell". Odd.

Agreed. This was disappointing, IMO. His insistence on using that awful locking nut on a hardtail guitar is in itself generating the need for that giant contraption.
