thats 16k gross for 3 hours, which is either 5.x k/hr if he gets all of it, or 2.5x k per hour if he gets half.

not too shaby for a coupla gigs he probably does for fun.

Considering I paid a lot more than that for a couple of VH tickets last time around, $325 is actually a pretty fair deal for 3 hours with Vai. Getting tickets will be a bitch though.

$325 is pretty rich for something that is basically a clinic. Still, it would be cool to go too.

Paul Gilbert was here in Australia last year and his 3 hour clinics/gigs were $20 AU...

Just kidding here (since it would never happen) but it would be hilarious if Ed hosted an event like this. We could learn secrets like the best seasonings to use when boiling your strings, best Marshall mods to tell people you've done (when you haven't), using your wah in a static setting to color your tone for the entire show, etc.

It would be cool to learn some of Vai's "secrets" in person, but I'm on the other side of the country. Some of his stuff is a real bitch to play, and it's only the easier things that I attempt at this point- mainly some Eat 'Em and Smile licks/songs. After considering and passing on a new Jem7 and Jem77, I recently picked up an Ibanez RG2550Z so I could work on some of Vai's licks with the floating trem- which is excellent in the Prestige line of Ibanez guitars. It's cool having 24 frets on the Ibanez as well, although I still love the Wolfgang Special.
