Wow! So little gain there on that amp. You can really hear that nice Marshall krrrang in some spots.

Yep. That and the tones on Fair Warning are the Holy Grail of guitar tones for me. It just simply doesn't get any better.

Its cool to hear little things that are buried in the mix. For instance it sounds like he is up stroking the 2nd A chord in the main riff a la You Really Got Me.

I made fun of the vocal one, but that was fascinating to hear.

That's the ONE thing many people screw up when trying to re-create the Brown sound.

For the most part even on the FIRST VH albums it is EXTREMELY clean. Really tight. The beef comes from the pick-ups and the volume of the amps.

The cross-picked blues licks at 2:39 and 2:58 are totally crazy to play at album-speed, note-for note. Granted, I'm not right-handed, so my picking hand has difficulty working like that.

THAT is the bullshit that you almost NEVER hear people replicate as quickly and as cleanly as Eddie did. He does it again during the end of "When it's Love", which is very rarely transcribed correctly. Another instance would be the very end lick of "You Really Got Me", if memory serves correctly.

Very few even play those licks, from what I've seen. They fluff their way out of it with legato or tapping, which is fine, but let it be said that Eddie was just flat-out weird in his approach to paying blues licks "quickly".

Three fingers per string with a stretch, Paul Gilbert style? Hell no. Not early-Eddie. Two fingers and a burning fretboard!

that sounds fairly harsh compared to the final mix. it sounds oddly similar to the brittle sound he has on the current tour.

it seems to me there is more to the brown sound than just eds digits (although he proves it live regardless so whatever).

methinks the producer and engineer did a hell of a job mixing these tracks in the process added something extra to the vh sound.

how old is ed here anyway? 21?

    props regardless.

I saw a bar band cover "Little Dreamer" and as expected, the solo was a hybrid of legato/tapping as no cross picking was even attempted!
