"Voodoo Queen" Demo, No Vocals '76-'77

This is a very primitive recording of "Voodoo Queen", which later morphed onto "Mean Street" on Fair Warning. The guitar disappears from about 1:12 - 1:34. There are no vocals and as a result, you get a very nice impression of Ed's rhythm work at the time.

That EVH was one bad mofo back in the day! AVH and Mikey are very solid on this one too. Good shit.

    Great stuff.

They were obviously onto something pretty kick-ass so it makes you wonder how it took until the fourth album for the final rendition to show up. I think most people would have worked that sucker into something in time for their first album.

Well that's just slicker than owl shit! I've got that boot, minus this little gem. That ruled buy the way. Man, Van Halen just kicked all kinds of ass back then. Out.

Isn't this on the "Rules Are For Fools" bootleg that combined the New Years 1977-78 concert with some soundcheck stuff. Also featured Dave acoustic with "Real Go-Getter"?

Nothing better than the soundcheck where they start to Jam "Rock Candy" while Dave asks for some more monitor and then for Tommy to "get those cords that we use".... before Ed slams in to Ain't Talkin' Bout Love....

Honestly, first VH bootleg I ever heard and still the best for show, unreleased and soundcheck stuff.

If I had a time machine I would visit the JFK assasination, Jesus's life and VH in the late 70's (with full digital recording on all events, of course).

    Where is Doc Brown?????

No doubt! JFK, Jesus, the dinosaurs, Roswell in '47, and then my time machine would work overtime getting me to VH gigs from the mid seventies through '84, plus many other classic rock band shows...

About this recording - a lot of people think it's the Pasadena rehearsal, but it isn't. It was recorded in Roth's basement (they recorded there often) in 1977. And this is to fast here, at 2:50... the actual length is 3:09.

Just imagine if we could hear the rehearsal tapes from Roth's basement. To hear these songs start from an idea or jam would have been incredible.

If I had a time machine, I would prevent the deaths of Jimi, Randy and Stevie. Then it would be off to 5150 studios to hear the 2000 rehearsals.
