    Default "Black Friday" War Stories

Anyone go out in the trenches? Anyone camp out for a couple days to get that totally awesome early bird special?

I've never done it...never seen something I just absolutely HAD to have but I'd love to hear anyone's stories, tips, tricks, etc....

Why do people still do this?? 99% of those "Black Friday" deals are available online, so why all the camping out and mad rush to the door?

That is fucking disgusting!!! I am sorry but are people really that ignorant and pathetic that they need to stampede into a store? And what ownership do the stores need to take in a case like this? If only limited quantities of an item are provided at a ridiculously low price resulting in the promotion of this kind of behavior then you can bet that this will be a situation where a legal precedent is set. I just can't believe that a person loses their life at 5am for a fucking sale!!!!

And not to be too cynical but maybe the 28 year old pregnant woman should have thought about maybe taking a year off from Black Friday and not joined throngs of people jamming into a store.

    Rant complete...for now.

I usually go out and have some specific things in mind, especially with kids. I'm not crazy camping out the night before and actually wait for just a tad after the store opens. I also don't go for the "super awesome" item everyone is ready to die to buy but I do pick up quite a few of the other specials. I'm a supply chain mgr so getting a deal is in my blood, I can't resist it. I can get a good portion of my shopping done (I got my hubby and most of my son's done and part of my daughters this morning) and with limited time, it helps. Plus I don't have to be anywhere the rest of the day so I come back with my treasures and warm up with coffee and the morning shows. Depending on the item(s), it can be worth it. I was looking at a new washer/dryer combo that was regularly $2300 on sale for $998. That is huge money and well worth it but as it ended up, they were gone. No biggie, mine is not dead yet but if I would have got it, I would be bragging for ages. I did get the other items so it was still worth it.

were those the frigidaire front loaders? That's a nice set...I think I saw those in the circulars for a grand...that's a helluva deal, definately worth making a play for.

By and large, I thought the sales were pretty lackluster, because of consumer spending and retail sales being down so much as of late, I was expecting some pretty agressive deals, stuff like 42" 1080 flat panels for 500 bucks but I didn't see anything so amazing...I really don't see anything that was worth getting really excited for.

To be true, I think a lot of people do it as part of their holiday traditions...get fat on turkey, go to bed early and wake up at 4 am to see the madness...then come back and eat left overs and recount their adventures...

I went out to Best Buy before work this morning to pick up a monitor they had on sale. It was 7:00 am and the store was packed. The sidewalk out front was trashed from where people must have camped out. I don't really understand it myself, but the store had things under control and I was in and oput in 10 minutes.

went to circuit city to take a gander at a new plasma or lcdTV for my dad....hadn't decided what I wanted (reviewed the very helpful thread we have here for advice) but once I got to the store.....no F'N WAY!

There wasn't a parking spot to be found..people were parked on the grass..there was a line of about 100 or more people to get into the store, and I figured once I got in there, it would be a mess...oh well, there's always another day, and if these stores keep closing, sooner or later I'll find what I want for a price I'm willing to pay.

so I went to the mall....absolute craziness..not for me!

so I went to Lowe's where I thought the crowds wouldn't be as crazy (they weren't) but every advertised special that I wanted on my list was sold out....every stinking thing....what did they do? stock 3 dewalt 18v cordless drills? "Oh no we're sold out of the $97 special, but here's another Dewalt 18v driver /drill sorry it's not $97 it's $159" and no rain checks either.

    I should have known better.
