    Default Happy Thanksgiving Linker Peeps

Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday ya'll.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

    G. Washington.

This is an especially meaningful Thanksgiving for me. It was 1 year ago this week that my older sister (45yrs old) was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. Shocking news that hit us all pretty hard because of the uncertainty of it, but I'm happy to report she was declared 100% cancer free last month after 10 months of pretty aggressive treatments that kicked her ass pretty good.

She and I have always been extremely close and I really can't say enough about the quality of person she is, but watching her amazing attitude and strength this year was something I'll never forget. She's an amazing person.

Thanks for posting that Seen. I don't believe I've ever read it.

Wow, with all the verbage referencing The Almighty, I'm surprised there isn't more of an outcry by fringe groups to not recognize Thanksgiving because of it's religious connections.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Well, it's Thanksgiving. Who else would we give thanks TO?

I'm just keepin' it real by displaying just one blip of why our forefathers recognize one day of the year for this. Imagine if Thanksgiving didn't exist. It would be almost odd to see this brought up as a potential holiday in this day and age, wouldn't it? The first generation of Americans had hearts overflowing with thankfulness to whatever creator they believed in, for such a great country to live in and prosper under. It's a very rich and historic Holiday, and one that I feel sometimes is very much taken for granted today. Those guys busted their asses for America so we could get fat and text message while we drink beer and watch a football game after stuffing our faces. It was a long time ago, but we're tied to them, all of us.

Anyways, in America, we have the freedom for that thankfulness to be to Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Karma, happenstance or the spaghetti monster. The point is, to reflect and be grateful for what each of us have whether a little or a lot. I'm willing to bet good money that when you compare to the rest of the world, it's a LOT.

    I'm extremely thankful.

Great Thanksgiving goodness there double down. Thanks for posting that. This will be an especially meaningful year for you guys.

    Yep, Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Some great people on this board and one who's even helped me out. His gift actually kept my mother out of the hospital two months back so thanks for that.

Hey, we got a semi-Van Halen tour this year with Dave where he should be. Not perfecto but not the end of the world either.

    Got a new ACDC album.

    Great Batman movie.

I'm back in school and getting "A"s in my science classes and I'm passing Spanish.

    I still have a job.

    Not a bad year.

    Best wishes to all.

    Interesting note regarding this document:

Shortly after the Thanksgiving Proclamation was written, it was lost for 130 years. The original document was written in long hand by William Jackson, secretary to the President, and was then signed by George Washington. It was probably misplaced or mixed in with some private papers when the US capitol moved from New York to Washington, D.C. The original manuscript was not placed in the National Archives until 1921 when Dr. J. C. Fitzpatrick, assistant chief of the manuscripts division of the Library of Congress found the proclamation at an auction sale being held at an art gallery in New York. Dr Fitzpatrick purchased the document for $300.00 for the Library of Congress, in which it now resides. It was the first official presidential proclamation issued in the United States.

    Happy Thanksgiving.
A little more volume in the headphones please.

No Thanksgiving would be complete without this classic. It was added to youtube 14 hours ago, and more than likely will be yanked again soon. Enjoy it while you can folks, and Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't think it'll be dropped...it keeps popping back up, in fact, it's in the Sarah Palin turkey murder thread.
