Default Anyone roll/stuff Your Own Cigs (smokers only)

Anyone out there start rolling / stuffing your own cigarettes?

I started about a month back. Instead of paying 45-50 a carton, I now pay about $13 / carton. It's pretty cool. The tobacco I've tried isn't the best, and apparently, Marlboro's are the hardest to mirror in flavor. Maybe that's a good thing, but that's what I was used to... Instead, I stuff cheap tubes with cheap tobacco, and after a week or so, you don't know any better! However, I'm always intersted to hear what anyone else is trying...

I've tried McClintock, Rave, ZigZag, Gambler and a few other cheap-o's, but stuck with Gambler cuz they have an Ultra Light.

I've used Premier Light and Rave Light tubes. The Rave seem a little better to me, and they're 2.50 for 250, as opposed to 3+ for 200 - (I know, splitting hairs at that point, but still, I like the cheaper better).

Anyone else??? Or am I evil for being a smoker?

No, not evil as far as I'm concerned. Admittedly, it's been a while since I rolled up anything though.

I've tried a bundle and here's what I've settled on:

    Premier light tubes
    Golden Harvest Ultra Light tobacco

It's the closest I've come to matching Marlboro (lights)

Smoker's outlet (online) has a pretty good selection, and their house brand is not bad. I just like the GH best. All the other tubes I've tried suck.

BTW, the tobacco and tubes comes to about $8.50 a carton here locally. I have a rolling machine as well. It was well worth the purchase price.
I swear, it's like I'm playin' cards with my brother's kids or somethin'. You nerve-wrackin' sons-a-bitches.

AHA! I read that GH was good - I just haven't ordered any yet...I'm so damn lazy - and I want it now! Have you tried Rave tubes? I found them a little better (IMO) than Premier, and more for less. They're newer, though, and only 1 of the 6 smoke shops in my area has them.

I'll have to order some GH soon. Thanks!!!

Never heard of Rave, but I'm pretty happy with Premier, even at $2.99 a box. I've got 3 smoke shops within 10 miles (2 of which are dependable), so I'm pretty lucky all things considered. So have you tried a machine yet?

Nothing wrong with Premier - I've tried both - I just liked Rave a tick more, and at a penny a piece, I was sold...

Yup - I have my Top-o-matic, I believe it's called - spent about $45 on it and it's the shit!!! I love it. I would do an electric, but that's just a little spendy and it keeps me busy doing it manually!

Funny this thread came along....I was passing "Cheap Tobacco" today (my family refers to it as Discount Cancer) and they had a sign in their window that said "Loose Tobacco, dip, chew, snuff and twist" What the heck is "twist" ?

I'd never heard of it, but here you go:

Modern chewing tobacco is produced in three forms: twist, plug, and scrap. Twist is the oldest form. One to three high-quality leaves are braided and twisted into a rope while green, and then are cured in the same manner as other tobacco. Users cut a piece off the twist and chew it. Until recently this was done by farmers for personal consumption in addition to other tobacco intended for sale. Modern twist is occasionally lightly sweetened. It is still sold commercially, but rarely seen outside of Appalachia. Popular brands are Oliver Twist, Mammoth Cave, Moore's Red Leaf, and Cumberland Gap. A few manufacturers in the United Kingdom produce particularly strong twist tobacco meant for use in smoking pipes rather than chewing. These twists are not mixed with lime although they may be flavored with whisky, rum, cherry or other flavors.

Started with rolling my own, and not having it any other way. Not only it's ridiculously cheaper, you never get a zilch of that nicotine rush with normal cigarettes.

Plus, it makes you smoke less (half the time i'm not even bothered to roll coz I'm either watching/reading/playing something, otherwise I'd just be pulling one fag after another from a pack).

Edited: thought I'd throw in the brands. I only use menthol extra slim Swan tips and Rizzla medium rolling paper. With tobacco, I pretty much always use Cutters Choice, now and again Golden Virginia. Had tried some pipe tobacco, but seriously, that stuff was just way too strong.

Never smoked tailor made. Always a roll-up man of some 20 odd years.

I'll only smoke Dutch tobacco though. Drum or Samson are the brands I go for and if you can get them in the States, give them a try. Different flavour and texture but I go without cigarettes if I can't get it.

Hey Winter..... Cutters choice and Golden Virginia are for girls. What are you? A fag? Oh... you already mentioned pulling fags .... never mind.

I used to use Drum tobacco when I rolled my own, back in college. This was back in the early 90's. Used to get it from a tobacco shop in Southern Maryland.
