    Default Veteran's Day November 11, 2008

A thank you to the servicemen and women who through great personal sacrifice and will, have served our country with honor and dignity.

Rather than post a handful of images, I instead offer the words from a song performed by Trace Adkins.

This is for those that are gone, yet will never be forgotten...

    Arlington

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown
They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done
There's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road
The man inside he cried the day they brought me home
They folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done
I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington

I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay
And when we finally found that cross
He said, "son this is what it cost to keep us free"
Now here I am a thousand stones away from him
He recognized me on the first day I came in
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me.

And every time I hear twenty-one guns
I know they brought another hero home to us

We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done
We can rest in peace, 'cause we are the chosen ones
We made it to Arlington, yea dust to dust
Don't cry for us, we made it to Arlington

I often feel I could say thank you until I am blue in the face and it still would not be enough.

    Still, Thank You!!!

And chef, great choice in words/lyrics. Heard that song this morning and it gave me chills.

    Well done chef!

My Grandfather did four tours in Okinawa. I still think about him all the time...

His bravery and sheer will to survive are the very reasons I am here today. Thank-you Gramp for everything that you did...

For those of you still serving, a very humble Thank-you....

My family and I stood at attention during the 2 minutes of silence and all I could think of while tears were flowing down my cheeks was, "Thank you for giving us our freedom, thank you for the ultimate sacrifice, and thank you for everything" to my two great-uncles who were in Europe after D-Day, my cousin who served in Vietnam, and my ancestors who served in the past. Thank you!

Chloe O’Brien: Ahmed Adudi; wealthy Saudi financier… Disappeared into Afghanistan in the late 90s…
    Jack: … Really?
Chloe (ironically): No Jack it’s a joke name, you’re being set up.

    Happy Remembrance Day

Here is a poem I like from a Canadian soldier John McCrae written during World War 1.

    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

Right Now you're reading my post!

I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do rap....you can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

A major debt of gratitude goes out to all who have served and are currently serving our country. Not everybody is cut out for such service, so thank God that there are people who are willing to make such sacrifices.
