Default First Look at the Dunlop EVH Wah

For anybody who cares...and I certainly know....I DO NOT!

    Little gear test.

Really mind boggling piece of gear here............................................

And now we know exactly why he sounded like he did on the 07-08 tour...

I just got this pedal. It does have a wide sweep and a bit more of a trebly sound. It is also the easiest wah to click on that I've ever used.

Don't most wahs today don't even need to be "clicked" on. don't they have some sort of circuitry which turns it on when the foot is on it and when you bring it back to the back position it turns off?

Some do, but I personally like a switch.

This is true of a Morley Bad Horsie, like Steve Vai uses. It has it's benefits, but you can't just step on it, walk away and leave it engaged, as many prefer to do with Dunlop Crybaby wahs. You've always got to keep your foot on it, which can be a pain.

Not the Dunlop stuff you have to click them on and off. Even the nice Jimi Hendrix version I bought a few months ago.

I've never used a switchless wah yet and I was kind of wondering about the threshold on these things. Do you have to put much of your weight on them for them to actuate? When my foot is on the pedal and I'm not moving it, I barely put any pressure on it.

I bought a nice Dunlop 535Q wah (it has a boost switch you can use with a volume control, a control to adjust the amount of 'Q' and a switch on the side which basically adjusts the amount of bass/treble). But it had the usually pain in the ass toe switch (I play sitting down most of the time). I then called Dunlop and for $50 I sent the pedal to them and they modded it and made it switchless. You step on it and it's on (like the Bad Horsie). There is an adjustment screw inside that you can adjust for when the pedal shuts off when you take your foot off it (mine is around 1 second+). You don't want it to shut off right away as you're rocking all the way up. The tone quality vs the Bad Horsie is night and day (just more vocal quality... the BH just sounds thin). You do lose 'true bypass' with this mod but I could give a shit. I didn't notice any difference.

As an aside I was impressed with the Tremonti wah when I bought it but had to take it back; when I used it I got all sorts of radio stations! I tried 3 different ones from Elderly, called Morley, made sure my guitar cables were not coiled, grounded at the outlet, etc., to no avail. I actually really liked the tone of it.

It doesn't require much weight at all. It's a very smooth functioning wah.

or if you use a switcher like i do the wah is on at all times and no need to turn it off and on. i really like to heat what people have to say about this. the phase i loved. the flanger i passed on although the unchained button is probably cool. this will really have to get my goat to give up my standard wah.

Wow, am I the only person who thinks this just doesn't sound that good?! Maybe it's just me, but I really DON'T like the color this wah adds to the guitar/amp's tone when activated. Don't get me wrong, I think Ed is a tone genius, and I pretty much love the sound of every amp/guitar/effects setup he has ever used, but this one just sounds plain bad to me. Anyone else think that when they saw him live on the 07-08 tour?
