Default Public Assistance, the only board game ever banned

Originally made by Hammerhead enterprises in 1980, it was pulled off the shelves after complaints.

It is available again at www.welfaregame.com

It is the funniest and most politically incorrect game I have ever seen.

The game is played by moving your game piece around a board with concentric "walks" that you have to navigate

The internal walks is the "Able Bodied Welfare Recipient Promenade" You earn a welfare benefit every month an collect extra money by landing on squares titled "lie on an application" "shop lift on way to welfare office", "have an illegitimate child" or by picking up cards that say " You are on welfare rolls in 2 states and DC collect triple benefits at the beginning of the month"

you lose money by landing of squares or collecting cards that say " Surprise go on liquor binge, lose $200" or "Finance company repossesses your cadilac, lose $200"

you can make REALLY good money by taking detours through the "drug loop" 'Prositution" loop ..(special for mayor collect $200) there are also the "gambling" and "armed robbery" loops...(rob collection plate after high mass collect $500)

Beware landing on the "GET A JOB" square tho. cause that launches you into the 'Working Persons Rut" where your grocery bill is 10X your dice roll or you have to pay for gas, rent, septic tank pumping and doctor bills...and WORSE YET ...DO NOT LAND on the "Go into business for yourself" loop...a sure money loser...however the "Union Job" loop can be nice, as is the "Government Job Cake walk"

easiest Loop..."jail jaunt" ..jail over crowding, police brutality charges, drug connections, escape and psychiatric disability all send you right back to the welfare promenade. with extra money in your pocket!..but beware of landing on the "sexually assaulted in jail, lose one turn" spot

Now, I' m not saying that I endorse this kind of cruel, biased, thinking, but this is a funny game...and funny is funny...you just can't tell anyone you ever played it, or you may be UNELECTABLE! (ironically I bought mine at a Goodwill in 1990 an just found it while cleaning out closets)

When I was growing up, the version of LIFE by Milton Bradley offered you the option of selling your children on the way to the poorhouse.

I remember something like that. Since many of my friends had older siblings, they often had somewhat older versions of board games and there were often differences. Some slight, some not so slight.

This game sounds like something dreamed up by Mainway Toys.

That reminds me, anyone remember the SNL "commercial" for the slot car track where if you got in an accident the car would catch fire and then a scale ambulance would arrive?

I don't remember that one but the "Jiffy Pop" air bag was cool.

Vaguely. There are a handful of others that stand out in memory, like Jogger Motel (Joggers jog in, but they don't jog out), Big Red (a toy viking that shot a toxic red substance out of it's horns) and Happy Fun Ball (that seemed to be the result of some bizarre government experiment, like the accidental invention of Silly Putty).

They are not available at youtube, and only recent ones seem to be available on the web.

Yeah, so you would have something to eat while they cut you out of the car. That was classic.

I often tell my two boys they HAD a sister, but she kept asking for too many toys.

Before anyone calls CPS, my kids know I'm joking. Sort of.
