So a few racist morons at a rally with thousands become "the gays"? You're doing the same those few idiots are, Axx.

I believe Arizona, FLorida and Ca all had ballot issues concerning gay marriage, and I believe they all "banned" gay "marriage".

I can see the emotional issue from both sides....the religious and cultural prejudices against same sex marriage are strong, as is the desire to have legal protections for your self and your family.

It's funny that amongst the people who vigorously defend hetero marriage only as the cornerstone of our civilization, that there is no real discussion of doing anything to promote the sanctity of marriage

...among heteros, the right to get drunk and get married to someone you've known 2 days is protected...the right to get married 10 times...uncontested...the right to get divorced for no stated reason...unheld

I think the hetero population has done more to damage the "sanctity" of marriage than any allowance of same sex couples to marry could ever do.

That ANY African-Americans were hasseled during the rally without reprisal from others in the crowd speaks volumes about the people around those morons.

Also, less than three weeks ago my friend and I got in the face of some "Yes on 8" people. Right is right and spewing racial slurrs at black folks wrong.

    Of course it's wrong.

How do you know there weren't reprisals? Were you there?

I find it excessively hard to believe that nobody said anything if they heard a fellow protester calling a black person a ******. Among the dozens of people I know who did or would go to a rally against Prop 8, every single one of them--myself included--would've given those people SERIOUS shit if they heard that.

Do you always make wild assumptions that reinforce what you want to believe?

The fact that we just elected our first black President is, no doubt, a step forward, but a bit delusive to the state of prejudice in our country.

Now, if we could just get past that pesky little problem that is religious dogma, we might actually be somewhere.

I think the reason that blacks were singled out is because they are a minority themselves and they of all groups should know how it feels to be persecuted. But the fact is, there is a stong anti gay sentiment in the black community. What is the %, I don't know. But, In my experience and many friends experiences, this is a real issue.

Actually we had a pretty interesting discussion about that in one of my sociology courses the other day, and there does seem to be some higher percentage of blacks than whites that oppose gay marriage for whatever reason, and I think that is not only a very serious issue, but one that we don't understand well enough at this point. However, I don't think there are enough black people in California so as to blame the passing of prop. 8 on only blacks anyways, as if doing so in the first place isn't wrong in itself.

Regardless of what anyone believes one way or the other, and regardless of their skin color, gay marriage should not be illegal, and to me it is no different than when women could not vote, blacks were treated like dirt, and even modern examples such as how women rarely make the money that men make. We're all human, and I don't give a shit what color you are or what you do in your bedroom or who you do it with, persecution based on something that affects nobody but you and the person you are or are with is just a statement highlighting the ignorance and stupidity that continues to plague the human race.

The Heterogenous have always fought to be refusenik, however voices have been heard on the issue. I believe President Obama should progaminate himself far from vexing issues of gay marriage, I mean after all he is a muslim, right?

Even tho gay marriage would be frabjous in the eyes of that temperveggian community, it still remains a jorum.

But yes, many many steps are needed to be taken foward to trigymulate to gain acceptance for this particular relm.

I agree and just for the record, I was not insisting that blacks were indeed the reason the prop passed. I was just relaying my personal experience with blacks and their feelings on the issue of homosexuality.
