Default VHND talks about Craig Parker Adams

    Man-
This guy has the vibe. Check out the article, discuss:

I REALLY liked what I heard here. Great tone/vibe that we all have come to love. I was pleasantly surprised. It sounded great. It's kind of like watching an Atomic Punks DVD... sometimes these guitar players sound better and cleaner playing this older stuff than Ed could right now (sadly).

    Thanks for sharing

Hmm...CPA definitely has the vibe. They're good pastiches. I have mixed feelings about it. The stuff is good, but I'm kinda uncomfortable listening to it. It's like he said in the interview, "Well, itís my understanding that Ed hates it when people try to do his thing. But, Iím not taking his notes. Iím copping his vibe. And frankly in a lot of ways that is much worse."

However, I gotta agree with what he says next:" But in our defense, weíre really just trying to keep and celebrate a spirit and sound of a flavor of music that we absolutely love. For us, itís the ultimate respect. Just like it is for everybody else whoís keeping the Van Halen spirit alive in their own way. This is just how we do it!"

Like I said, mixed feelings...so I went to iTunes and bought his demos.

I honestly CAN'T remember the last time someone tried to "borrow" someones guitar vibe....I keep listening to the tracks and thinking, "Thats taken from ....And The Cradle Will Rock, oh thats got the Unchained vibe, whoa, theres some of the early VH stuff...for not having a Van Halen album since, what, '96? This is a pleasant alternative. Frankly, I'm kinda surprised that no one else attempted something in this sort of vein. the tone Craig is getting-sweet JEEZUS, I've heard a LOT of people making attempts at copping the brown sound, but I've not heard too many people do it much justice like this cat!

I dunno if I would want to hear lyrics to these gems. Sadly, it leaves me wanting more, and kinda making me a bit saddened that we haven't had ANY Van Halen material since Gary Cherone graced the microphone. It leaves me wanting the supposed news of Roth recording vocals in NY to work, wanting the brothers Van Halen to finally show us all these years of material stored at 5150. Sigh...Craig, thanks for a tiny bit of relief for new Van Halen material.

Everything sounds fantastic, I'm going to buy the tracks before Eddie sues the shit out of him though. The Five Nine song is way too close to Jamie's Cryin...

You know when you're watching ESPN's SportsCenter and they have music playing during the highlights? That's what this music reminds me of. I like it, but...

Like Red43j, I don't think I want to hear any lyrics with these songs.

How cool! Like others have said, that tone is dead nuts on! Good job Craig!
By the way if you are lurking, what did you use to get the tone if you don't mind helping a guy out!

I read Craig leave a statement on another board regarding your question. I just went ahead, cutting and pasting (it was off Guitars 101. someone had emailed him, asking pretty much the same question):

"The thing about the guitar sound is you kinda have to slave amps. What your hearing is 3 heads run on variacs - 2 412 cabs- 1 old Maestro EP2 tube echoplex ( that's the slap back on the right) 1 old mxr flanger & phase 90 (originals). That is my rig. The medley is from 3 years ago. The reason the sound changes is because back then I would use a stereo chorus to split the signal. So when you hear it in the center it's because a stereo pedal is on. When it's not it's spread it's always( dry left slap right ). I was at a VH rehearsal in 90 or 91 & that's when I saw what Ed was doing up close. The only dif is he uses 3 cabs. L & R wet & the center is always dry. As you can tell on the medley it varies from tune to tune. Some Vh tunes require that chorus effect. He calls it Jape. Now I do the same thing but instead of a chorus I use the harmonizer ( like Don Landee put on Ed ). Ed never used that in the studio. Don added it when they mixed. You can get a similar effect by slightly detuning one side. The set up on Five Nine is this. The overdub is obvious. Otherwise it is always one guitar. It just sounds bigger
because of the afore mentioned info... I hope this info helps - gaurd it with your life (kidding).............
    CPA"

    -Hope that helps. -red43j

He does nail the feel, which is the hardest thing about VH, but
ridiculously derivative and for all his tone science, to me some of it sounds
    too Schon-y.

If you were to tell me this was some material from the 10 cds Eddie supposedly has lying around, I would believe it. He has Eddie's vibe nailed to a t. I really want to hear more of this because it really does sound like VH song ideas and rough demos. I think it's cool, instead of being in a VH cover band, he's writing his own shit but stealing Eddie's vibe...an interesting idea and I think he's showing nothing but respect for Eddie. Very cool to hear.
