Don't Forget To Set Your Clocks Back This Weekend, If It Applies

So you don't look like a complete dolt by being early to work Monday, a simple reminder.

Standard time returns, set clocks back an hour before going to sleep Saturday night
    By Associated Press

    11:28 AM EDT, October 31, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) _ It's time to fall back.

Standard time returns this weekend at 2 a.m. Sunday, so set your clocks back an hour before going to sleep Saturday night.

The change means most Americans will get an extra hour of rest, but those working overnight shifts might toil an hour longer. It also means some will forget to change their clocks, and show up early for church or other events on Sunday.

    Daylight time returns in March.

The time change doesn't apply in Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

While you're at it...remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and your emergency flashlights

it's also a good time to take a look at your home fire extinguisher and see when it was last serviced (yes, they need to be serviced)

don't have smoke detectors or co2 detectors or fire extinguishers or emergency flashlights?.....then get down to the hardware store, dumbass...geez

Do not purchase a combination co2/smoke detector. co2 is heavy and will sit at the floor, smoke is hot and rises. They should not even be allowed to sell these combination detectors.

So are you saying they don't work OLO?

I have one and the other day when we were expecting our first freeze, i turned on the heater. Within about an hour it went off saying it was detecting carbon monoxide. Had a service out today to check it and they found that my heat exchanger was cracked. He also had a little hand held gizmo that he put over the vent and it detected low levels.I have been using 30 days filters and i change them the first of every month. That is the extent of my preventive maintenance.

Thank god we have kept the home warranty active since purchasing the house two years ago.

The combo co2/smoke detectors cancel each other out depending on were you place it.

co2 is a heavy gas and sits lower to the floor, so you want to place a co2 detector near the floor. Smoke rises because it is hot, a smoke detector is best placed high on a wall of on a ceiling.

You want these to safety devices to give you the earliest possible warning. That's why a combo co2 detector/smoke detector is a bad idea. If its placed low it will detect co2 but by the time the smoke reaches the floor level your house is in very bad shape. If its placed high it will detect smoke but by the time the co2 gets to the level of the smoke you are dead!!!

A crack in your heat exchanger is a dangerous condition. Its could be leaking co2 directly into your house vent system. Basically spreading a posionous gas into your home without you knowing it. People go to bed and just do not wake up.

That is why HVAC manufacturers recommend that a gas furnace be serviced annually.

Wuss! Turning on the heater at first freeze. Ha. I laugh at your weenieness!

Just joking. I have some friends that are lucky they woke up several years back. They lived in a duplex, and the furnace in the residence next to them started leaking carbon monoxide. They had all awakened in a serious haze, horrible headaches and were sluggish all day. The one daughter was at work when she got a phone call telling her to go to the hospital, because she probably had carbon monoxide poisoning.

The scary thing about it is that 3 of the family's 5 kids were living there, so they could have potentially lost more than half of their children due to carbon monoxide.

Oh yeah, I hate this Daylight Savings shit! I get up, clock says 8, and I think, "Cool, 4 more hours until the Vikings are on!" Then I sit down at the computer and realize that it's only 7.
