Default Authentic Ed Signature on Guitar?

I have a friend of mine here in SF that is doing charity work who recently stumbled across this auction:

    https://www.cmarket.com/auction/item...sp&id=75143931

Anyone know if it is legit? Never seen Ed sign a Fender Strat before, but it says that it has been certified. Guess his new deal with Fender would make sense here...

    Autograph looks pretty damn close...

Stars sign all sorts of guitars all of the time. I have seen Series 10 guitars signed by members of KISS, ESP's signed by the Cure, and Alvarez guitars signed by Motley Crue, all for either charity or a display in a Hard Rock Cafe. Pretty much the brand doesn't matter to most autograph collectors, and in most cases, an autograph is NOT restricted by an endorsement contract.

If it can be authenticated, it is at least an authorised copy of a signature. Of course I like a picture of them signing the item in question if I am going to plunk down 5000 clams...

A lot of those autograph collectors hang out at concerts with just the pickguard and get it signed, then slap it on a guitar.

And that's exactly what the situation is here. Moreover, it's a Strat "style" guitar. Look at the cheap hardware and one-ply pickguard; you'd be lucky if that thing was even a Squier Strat. The guitar is a piece of shit, the signature was only ever done to a blank pickguard, it's not worth even considering buying.

I agree the guitar isn't worth buying from a VH collector's point of view...

If someone is that hard up for Ed's signature, buy something else a hell of a lot cheaper...

I could see someone potentially spending a good amount of money for a signed EBMM, Wolfgang, or a guitar Ed personally owned.

I guess if one has more money than brains, he/she could buy the guitar and have a tax write-off of the difference from the published value and the amount paid...
