Finally broke down and got the remastered VH I- is it just me or do all I hear is increased volume? And I could have acheived that by turning up the old disc.
I have nice equipment- maybe my ears are shot?

Yeah, I felt the same way when I first listened to them. You'll really notice the difference if you put one of the old ones in, listen to a song for 30 seconds, then stick it the new one and do the same. That's the best way to really hear the difference.
It's funny, there's certain things that sound great, but certain things I didn't notice much difference. Here are some things that I noticed on the remasters
1. The intro guitar notes of Bottoms Up sound great, like they're bouncing around.
2. Mikey's bass is really thumping underneath the solo in Romeo Delight
And here's some things I noticed that didn't really blow me away.
1. Unchained didn't sound as big as I'd expected, maybe because I'm used to the BOV 1 version.
2. The first solo Eddie does in And the Cradle Will Rock is quieter than I expected.
3. 1984 shows the least improvement in my opinion. The bass is still pretty low on that one (though that could be the difference between remixing and remastering). The good thing about 1984 is that finally Girl Gone Bad doesn't have that skip beginning.
I don't have the best equipment in the world, plus I listen to all of my music with headphones, so I don't know how much these affect my listening experience. I'd love to hear other peoples' opinions on specific songs or sections of songs. I'd say, most improved to least improved, the remasters go;
Diver Down
VH II
WACF
FW
VH I

The re-masters sound so much better IMHO...
I don't even think that's up for debate.
And I don't believe they are just "louder" then the originals. You turn up the originals louder and trust me, they DO NOT sound as rich and full LOUDER as the re-masters do at NORMAL volume (Is there a "Normal Volume" in Rock And Roll??)
The sound is fuller, thicker and beefier..
More bottom end, clearer sounding individual notes in a variety of places (too numerous to mention) The keyboards sound clearer the vocals, everything......
It's like everything is less-muddy sounding and more distinct.
I for one am far from dissatisfied with them...
The Re-masters kick!!!

Brett and I listened to them. The snare drum is more distinct, so is the bottom end..you also have to remember that they aren't remixed...there's only so much they can do with them. It's all good

As I said in a previous post, 2 and WACF sound better. Eddie's guitar sounds more spatial than before, Mike is louder and beefier, Al pops better, and Dave sounds great. I picked up Fair Warning and DD today and will give them a listen.

Of the remasters, I've only listened to FW and WACF so far. I didn't notice that much difference in FW over the original. But WACF is greatly improved. There's little stuff going on in the background that I'd never even noticed before. And Romeo Delight kicks ass! That "feel my hearbeat" thing is just flat out intense, I tell ya'

Am I on drugs? My original 1984, the very first note of Girl Gone Bad sounds like it kinda skips into the song. Now on the new one that is gone and it's a smooth intro into the first note. Maybe it's just my original CD, has anyone else noticed this on the original?

Sounds fine to me, Glenn.

Damn, all those years and I thought it was supposed to sound like that. I guess it's lucky they remastered them or I'd probably never have known.

I need to get the remastered 1984.
Even if all they did with the remasters was turn up the volume, it would've worked fine with 1984, how quiet it is!

I obviously need to work on paying better attention, because I had 1984 on both vinyl and cassette before having it on the CD, and I didn't ever notice anything wrong with the CD.
BTW, I still have the LP, wish I knew what happened to that cassette.

Glenn, you're NOT dreaming man, I have the skip sounding thingy on my CD too!!! I always thought that maybe the song had a long intro that was cut off or something. I have the cassette and it does the same thing.
