April 15, 1978: Echoes & Reverberations: Van Halens Almost Infamous

A great story about the writer's discovery of Van Halen in '78. Brought back a lot of fond memories about how I heard the band for the first time...

I love reading stuff like this! Awesome!!!
"It doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you..." -Neil Young

"The sun's not yellow, it's chicken." -Bob Dylan

"If you go out and buy a Van Halen record and put it in your collection, it'll melt your other records." -David Lee Roth, 1981.

Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it's DULL, you twit!!! It'll HURT MORE!!!

This is so cool! I STILL live in Ft Worth and remember listening to VH's first album on KZEW (The ZOO).

VERY COOL! I would give ANYTHING to have known about their first DFW show but I didn't really get into them until VHII. I loved their first album but VHII is when I really became a hardcore VH fan.

    Great find!

BTW, he mentions I-30 in the story and I take I-30 everyday to work : ). I saw INXS on their "Listen like Thieves" tour at the Will Rogers Coliseum and we snuck backstage! So, this story REALLY brings back some very special memories of my youth here in Ft Worth, TX. Listening to Van Halen, getting stoned and drinking WAY too much beer. GOD, WHY didn't I go see Van Halen at that concert?! I didn't see them until their 1980 Invasion tour. Reunion Arena (Dallas) and was on the FRONT ROW!

Also, I drive by that Will Rogers Coliseum everyday on the way home as well and they don't use it anymore for concerts, don't think they have in a VERY long time but it is still there. It's a VERY old coliseum. I can just picture VH playing there in 1978. What a great time it was to be a 14 hard rocking kid (except for the disco thing lol!)

Thanks for the link. I am going to keep this article.

edit: I meant "auditorium" rather than "coliseum". Will Rogers has both (right next to each other, connected with a hallway) and it was the auditorium where I saw INXS and where this guy saw Van Halen.

I missed hearing about the Ft. Worth show as well....

The only good thing I ever saw at Will Rogers was some wrestlin' back in the 80's...

The Von Eric's...... What long story that dynasty had!
