Well, here we go again! A little late actually, considering the season already began, but the real fun hasn't begun just yet. Should be a damn good one.

I've been waiting for this day ever since I watched the Flyers shake the hands of the Penguins at the end of game five. It should be a very good hockey season, and I wish all of your respective hockey clubs the best of luck.

    Flyers' Parent needs shoulder surgery

    By ED MORAN

The news was not what the Flyers wanted.

    But it is unavoidable.

Rookie defenseman Ryan Parent's right shoulder has not improved and he will need surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered in a preseason game last month against the New York Islanders in London, Ontario.

According to general manager Paul Holmgren, Parent will miss the first 12 to 14 weeks of the season.

"He'll miss significant time. He's going to need surgery on his right shoulder. He has a torn labrum," Holmgren said. "We tried to do the conservative route with a little rest and some rehab and it didn't work and it's not going in the right direction. We decided today to go the aggressive route." *

I can't wait to erase last season's playoff exit from my mind. I like the improvements the Devils have made. It should be a lot of fun this year!

    ***

I didn't get a chance to reply to those last few post in the NHL off-season thread about team announcers. Us Devils fans are very proud to have Mike Emrick call our games on TV. He's as straight across the board as they come. Very professional. And Chico Resch does a decent job adding his color commentary. A little homerish, but he definitely tries to be fair.

Our radio team of Matt Loughlin and Sherry Ross is pretty bad. We used to have an excellent radio play-by-play guy in Mike Miller with a strong booming voice. But that was a while ago.

It is pretty hard to argue with picking MTL in the East. BUT as they found out last year.......regular season success don't mean much in the playoffs...Still things just seem to be lining up for them.

The trendy pick with most TV and internet so called experts is Det v MTL in the Finals. Hard to agrue with that either. Seen a few picking SJ, Dallas, Anh and the NYR as well. Funny that nobody is really picking the Pens with all their offseason losses.

No predictions from me this year......other then saying I would like to see SJ v Phi in the Finals.

I won't make predictions either but I will say what my realistic hopes are.

I want to see the B's play entertaining hockey (aside from the playoffs vs. MTL last year they've been very boring for a few years now) and I want to see them get in the playoffs and win the first round. If they can win one round and give legit reason to expect a deeper run next year then I will be happy.

I'll add that I really hope Bergeron, Kessel, and Lucic make a name for themselves this year. Bergeron has a nice rep right now but Kessel and Lucic haven't really become household names. I think all three can be the face of the B's for the next several years if they produce the way I think they can.

I have some guarded expectations for the Oilers chances this season. A lot of the so called experts appear to be on board as well. Some of the guys on the espn panel are picking them to win the division. I like the forward group with the young mix and the defence is full of puck movers. The pp should be very good this year. I also think Garon is the real deal in net and should have a very good season. Health will be the key because the last 2 years the Oil have been decimated by injuries. My one wish would be a big physical shutdown dman that could help protect late 3rd period leads. The team coughed up too many of those last year and it came back to haunt them in the end. The schedule at the outset is tough. 14 of the first 20 are on the road. If they can come out of it a couple of games over .500 they should be in good shape for the playoff push later in the year.

Glad to see Jody is holding on to a roster spot. I hope he as popular with the fans there as he was here. He's a good guy and works hard.

    Also regarding the Sharks.

Most people around here are pretty high on Setoguchi this year. He has clicked pretty well with Thornton & Marleau so far. He has taken over for Cheech on the 1st line RW and the 1st PP. Great shot and can make a decent pass. Kid could score A LOT of points if he can hang and play a little defence.

JR gets moved up to the 3rd line with the injury to Mitchell. I just hope his Knee will hold up. 21 years in the NHL for JR. He may have to go Head 2 Head with Getzlaf tonight which will be a tall order. They may have to match up Joe Ts line instead.

Also with the injuries Shelley makes it onto the 4th line. Maybe a rematch with Parros tonight.

3 new D-men from last year. Adding Boyle is going to make a HUGE difference. Screw Brian Campbell....LOL, I would rather have Boyle, he is better all around and a better passer, just not a flashy of a skater.

Hopefully Rob Blake can find the fountain of youth. For what he is making $$ he is going to get a ton of minutes.

AND in net we got Nabby. Bottom line is Nabokov should have won the Vezina last year. Damn East coast media......LOL!!! Look for 40+ wins and a great GAA.

I've been hearing that the Bruins are as deep at Center as anyone. I openly admit I've gotten a little out of touch with the rest of the league the past couple of years so I can't say one way or another how true that is. I do know that I like what I see at that position:

    Centers:

    Patrice Bergeron - Age 23
    Phil Kessel - Age 21
    Marc Savard - Age 31
    Stephane Yelle - Age 34

Plus a few more young kids who looked strong in the playoffs last year but still unproven over a whole season.

As far as the B's defensemen, uh yeah....not liking what I see at all as a whole group. What I'd give to have Bourque back there again.
