They were gonna do this in 2007, and promote it with the Summer 2007 Tour that got delayed to the point of never happening. We got the 07-08 tour instead, and the new CD didn't happen.

I recall reading something about this last year.

But I was just wondering because that cd showed up on the product list only couple weeks ago. It has a Monitor icon on it which means "Monitor this product by entreing your mail address and click 'Monitor'. We will send you an email when this product is bookable."

    Why list it just now?

VAN HALEN: 'Best Of (1978-1984)' Release Date, Track Listing Revealed - Jan. 31, 2007

BLABBERMOUTH.NET can reveal that Rhino Records has set a March 13 release date for VAN HALEN's "Best Of (1978-1984)", the first single-disc compilation exclusively spotlighting 1978-1984, the group's original David Lee Roth era. The album, which coincides with VAN HALEN's March 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, contains over an hour of remastered classics from the albums "Van Halen", "Van Halen II", "Women And Children First", "Fair Warning", "Diver Down", and "1984". Highlights include "Runnin' With The Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", and "And The Cradle Rock". Also featured are "Everybody Wants Some", "So This Is Love" and "Oh, Pretty Woman". The CD booklet will contain rarely seen photos and liner notes.

"Best Of (1978-1984)" tentative track listing:

    01. Runnin' With The Devil
    02. Eruption
    03. You Really Got Me
    04. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
    05. Jamie's Cryin'
    06. Dance The Night Away
    07. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
    08. Beatuiful Girls
    09. And The Cradle Will Rock
    10. Everybody Wants Some
    11. Mean Street
    12. Unchained
    13. So This Is Love?
    14. Where Have All The Good Times Gone
    15. Oh, Pretty Woman
    16. Dancing In The Street
    17. Jump
    18. Panama
    19. Hot For Teacher

According to MelodicRock.com, VAN HALEN — featuring David Lee Roth on vocals — will likely play two dates in Las Vegas at The Pearl at The Palms Casino on April 27-28 before kicking off a full North American tour sometime late spring. A list of 17 VAN HALEN tour dates was posted online over the weekend, but those are now said to be "merely a proposed itinerary/routing that is no longer valid," according to the site.

Billboard.com reported last week that a deal was nearly done for VAN HALEN to embark on a summer tour that would include 40 amphitheatre shows.

VH releasing their 3rd Greatest Hits (ya, I know the date gives away the fact that this isn't happening) would not surprise me. These guys will milk 6 albums w/ Dave like there is nobodies business; imagine what they could do with the 10 albums of material Ed has in the can already.

Sarcasm aside - they'll likely do this though. It's be re-remastered, Wolfie will be on bass and there will be 2 'new' songs (which will likely be covers).

At least Kiss was honest with the fans when they completely sold out. VH is trying to sell this to us as genuine innovation.

If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

Wtf that list is weak. No I'm The One, HAIL... well I guess they wouldn't be marketing it to the fans that already have all those songs anyways.

The band would make bank if they put out a 3rd greatest hits packaged with some b-sides or whatever is in ed's vault.

You call this selling out? It means the vast legions of DLR fans, including the new ones converted on the 07-08 tour, will not have to buy a double album (BOBW) just to get their "Classic VH fix". Sure, some of us love Sammy, but I'm sure there's a lot of people who will appreciate only having to buy one CD.

That track listing is pretty empty to be honest. There are loads of songs I would have included and made it a 2-disc CD. Although with it not likely to be ever released its all hypothetical.

There WAS a 1978-1984 VH Greatest Hits Package that was going to be released.

In a HMV, early last year, downtown they had a section outlined where the CD was going to be and that you could pre-order it.

I don't know what happened with the release. Must have been scrapped.
