I believe it was posted last week. Not bad for a band that toured less than 1/2 a year!

You know I wonder how much ticket brokers made off of them. I paid 163.60 for a ticket that was 49.50 face value, because I couldn't get them off of ticketmaster. If Van Halen got that money rather than the brokers I wonder if it would have made a difference. Same thing for The Police.

So lets see, the Police do a real reunion and make $115 million and VH does a half baked one and does $35 million? What does that tell you?
Like most bands who sign their first contract, VH probably did not make much money on the first deal and probably owed the record label money. Until Sammy came along and had influence with the direction and management of the band was the band able to grow and start making big money. Once Eddie got involved and got away from 100% focus on his music, the slide downhill began. Sammy learned how to make good music and good business decisions(Cabo Wabo brand $80 million plus and growing) while Eddies control has led to the most of the problems with the band.

Back in the day, bands really did not make that much money on album sales but on touring and t-shirts. While Van Halen most likely had more favorable contracts regarding their album sales post 5150, their album sales were not at the same level. Remember that VH and 1984 have sold a quarter of their entire sales. I am sure that by 1984, the were under a different record contract and most likely had the same rate as 5150. Maybe by FUCK or Balance they redid their contract again. Who knows.

Anyway touring is where Van Halen made the majority of their money not with album sales.

Cabo Wabo initially was a failure thus the reasons for the brothers getting out of it. Sammy did turn it around but it was hard work.

It's hard to put any stock into a list like this because you have one band charging $180 a ticket while another charges half that. You can't really draw any conclusions from this list in terms of who had the bigger or more successful tour.
    .
    .
    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

    This is JUST 2008...

In 2007 they grossed about 60 Million (I think it was $57 million)
    2008 they grossed $35 million.

Which adds up to $92-93 million.

The original article which is referenced in the other thread said it goes from July 1 of 2007 to June 30 of 2008.

I wonder what the Police were doing that had them make so much more money.

The fact that VH only made $35mil leads me to believe that the tour wasn't just for money. Split that four ways (or probably 3 cause of Wolfgang) and it's about 10 mil. I'm sure for Ed, Al, and Dave, that isn't a shitton of money.

I have a question. Would or could the members of the band have been getting a pay check during the tour? If they grossed $93mil but only netted $35mil, could the band have been getting a weekly amount during the tour which would have actually been money made on top of the $35mil and have showed as an expense?
