I just read that. I knew that he had been in poor health. RIP Paul.

    Harvey Logan: Guns or knives?
    Butch Cassidy: Neither?
    Harvey Logan: Pick.
Butch Cassidy: I don't want to shoot with you Harvey.
Harvey Logan: [draws a big knife] Anything you say, Butch.
    [Butch walks over to Sundance]
Butch Cassidy: [in a low voice] Maybe there's a way to make a profit in this. Bet on Logan.
Sundance Kid: I would, but who'd bet on you?
Harvey Logan: Sundance, when we're done, and he's dead, you're welcome to stay.
Butch Cassidy: [low voice, to Sundance] Listen, I don't mean to be a sore loser, but when it's done, if I'm dead, kill him.
Sundance Kid: [low voice to Butch] Love to.
    [waves to Harvey and smiles]
Butch Cassidy: No, no, not yet. Not until me and Harvey get the rules straightened out.
Harvey Logan: Rules? In a knife fight? No rules.
[Butch immediately kicks Harvey in the groin]
Butch Cassidy: Well, if there aint' going to be any rules, let's get the fight started. Someone count. 1,2,3 go.
    Sundance Kid: [quickly] 1,2,3, go.
    [Butch knocks Harvey out]
Flat Nose Curry: I was rooting for you all along, Butch.
Butch Cassidy: Well, thank you, Flatnose. That's what sustained me in my time of trouble.

Butch Cassidy: Then you jump first.
    Sundance Kid: No, I said.
Butch Cassidy: What's the matter with you?
    Sundance Kid: I can't swim.
Butch Cassidy: Are you crazy? The fall will probably kill you.

So long, Butch. Thanks for the memories.

+1. One of my favorite actors. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a fundraising dinner in the late '90s. A very nice man who truly cared about others. RIP, Paul.

The back and forth between him and George Kennedy in Cool Hand Luke was just as good.......he had a way with his dialogue and delivery.

Oh, and the scenes in The Hustler with Jackie Gleason were classic as well.....there's just sooo many that come to mind !

I love the scene where they'd been playing pool all night long, and Fast Eddie had been drinking JTS Brown all night and Fats goes in the restroom during a break and freshens himself up while Eddie's just hammered and tired.....he'd just been hustled. Fats knew he had him right where he wanted him.

Interesting note about that flick.... Jackie Gleason shot all of his own shots in that movie, while Newman had a stand-in........Willie Mosconi, who was one of the greatest billiard players ever and had a cameo in the movie (collecting ante money off of the table)

Yeah, it stinks to learn that the guy has passed on, yet try to think of the amazing life he lead. The films are one thing, and the guy was an automobile enthusiast and racer, yet more importantly he was a philanthropist, a humanist and environmentalist as well. Newman wasn't of of those Sean Penn/Hollywood dipshit/do-nothing activists, he put his money and time in where it mattered. Rather than hawking a bunch of food products with his mug on them to earn a fast buck, he gave the profits after taxes to charity, raising untold millions in the process.

Condolences to his family and friends.

We discuss his movie work most because that was the most access anyone really had to the guy...his public work.

I know, because I'm such a big fan of his, what a great man he was otherwise. But he was also a VERY private man. Rarly, if ever did interviews, and would NEVER toot his own horn !

A total class guy all the way around, that will be dearly missed by me, at the very least !
