Default 5 Sports rules that need to be changed

    http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/fo...ord/posts/4541

I totally agree with 3. #5 is a safety issue more then anything else. Can't see how that will go away.

I'd say that the NBA needs to enforce the steps or "traveling" rule, yet at this point it's a forgone conclusion. Since it is never even called these days, might as well drop it.

Restrictor plates could have gone away 15+ years ago had NASCAR listened to Robert Yates back then. His simple, and logical suggestion was to downsize the engines down to about 4 litres. If it had been done then, we'd have real racing at Daytona and 'dega.

Yep, what I was thinking (or actually remembering old discussions of) - smaller engines. And totally agree with #3. Could actually care less about any rules that college sports use unless they decide to enact one that says all athletes must be actual students, not just taking a couple of token courses here and there or having stand-ins in the tougher classes.

Other than that, I can't think of any I'd add; other than my various tweaks to NASCAR I've mentioned in that thread before.

The funny part of #3 is that the author got it wrong. He should have said "forced to play the field" rather than "forced to hit." Designated hitters hit. It's all that they do, actually.

Pass Interference calls in NFL should be 10 yards and automatic first down...."spot of foul" rules allows for too many of these just throw the ball up there and hope to draw a flag....see that just way too much of late.

I'd like to change the rule that says Dallas is "America's Team".

    No shit, huh?

I wish there was some way to tweak holding penalties in football. Nothing infuriates me more than when a big gain is taken back because some fat fucker on the O Line was holding someone completely away from the play and had no impact on that gain.

Well I agree with the DH rule. I'm an NL guy and if you play, you should hit. Period.

Boxing/UFC: Winner gets 100% of the purse

Hockey: Bring back fighting and watch the stickwork and diving go away

Winter Olympics: Make team snowball fighting an event

Soccer: Enforce penalties for diving. Also, if a player needs time out to receive medical attention/trainer on the field, he can't play the rest of the half.

Well, since fighting was never eliminated it's really just a matter of doing away with the Instigator rule. I love a great fight, but no matter what rules get changed you'll never see it return to the degree it was for so long. It's just a different game now.

You are correct sir. Every highlight you see could be called for traveling. Players take 2-3-4 steps before some windmill/tomahawk/360 dunk. Seriously, how many times is it called? Once, twice a game, maybe.

And eat twinkies. I think he was meaning pitchers being forced to hit...but you probably already knew that.

NFL OT - stupid. Coin flip sudden death? What? Dumb.

Not that this is any less dumb, but IMO they should modify it and steal a concept from the college rule. Coin flip - one team kicks off. If the receiving team (Team A) scores on that possession they kick off to Team B, who has to match that score to keep going, or beat it to win. If they match it, they kick off, and it keeps going until one team scores and one team doesn't match it. If at any point Team A doesn't score, then it goes to sudden death, next score wins. The purpose it to make sure each team has an opportunity/possession to win/tie the game. Once they have that and fail, it's either over or it's sudden death.

Note - not that they're asking me, but I'd even consider shortening it to once a team has a possession with the ability to WIN the game but doesn't, it goes to sudden death. So if team A kicks a FG, then team B matches, it's sudden death since team B had a chance to win by scoring a TD. The only way it doesn't is if team A scores a TD and 2 point, then team B could only tie, it keeps going.
