    Default Safe music?

It'd be so much easier if my kids would just listen to the music I play, but their tastes haven't matured yet so they tend to gravitate to the crap that gets played today. A lot of it's just not my cup of tea, but the days of being able to say "they play it on the radio so it must be safe" are long gone. Is anybody aware of any kind of site where they rank current artists by what kind of content they put in their music so that one doesn't have to go reading the lyrics of every song by an artist before passing judgement? Right now my kids want to listen to Chris Brown - I read some of his lyrics, didn't see the "N" word or "bitch" or "ho" or profanity, but I haven't read all of his songs. My dog meanwhile runs around all day singing "I chased a squirrel and I liked it" (well, it might be "I ate a squirrel..." - hard to tell, him being a dog and all and not able to enunciate as well as I do). Be a nice endeavour for someone to take - to go through all the lyrics of artists and point out potential trouble spots (or just plain say "don't buy this artist's records for your kids" if it's nothing but profanity and disrespect) and in this age of the internet it wouldn't surprise me if someone's already done it.

As much as it may pain you; Hanna Montana/Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, The Cheetah Girls. Go to Radio Disney and see what they play. Right there is probably the safest you can get. It still sound like most of what is played on current pop stations.

Those advisory stickers only go so far - for one it helps to have the CD in your hands in order to see it, you don't always know about it for downloads or if they get the song from a friend. Plus, not every CD that deserves one has one!

I'd trust Radio Disney, I think, although for some reason they primarily seem to be on AM!

That commonsensemedia.org website looks as if it has to have potential (and no, you don't have to register!) - thanks!

The stickers are just for expletives I think. There are much worse things within themes than expletives themselves.

I'm lucky. My daughter only wants to listen to Christian radio.

What's wrong with 80-ies pop bands?

I have absolutely no clue about modern kids-safe music, pretty much all of the modern stuff I listen to is not-safe for anyone, let alone kids. I got my 12-year-old brother into Bullet for my Valentine but that's my limit right there. Times of mellow music have kind of faded into oblivion more than a decade ago.

What I meant was, go to their website and see the artists they have on there. You'll be pretty safe in whatever you find there. I think you an also stream it. I have Radio Disney on SIRIUS and find myself listening to it, after the comedy, rock, talk, and country stations have worn out on me.

I also use it to keep up to date with the music my daughter likes/wants. I just got her the new Jonas Bros. CD the last time I was with her.

For your daughter, you can't go wrong with them. They're also played on Christian stations. They each wear a "purity ring" to show their intentions to "wait until marriage."

My daughter also likes Drake Bell from Nickelodian's Drake & Josh. He is quite the axe player and singer.

My daughter is 11 and a huge radio disney fan. It is all very clean and kid friendly. That rap CRAP that kids are listening to now is horrible! I hear it on the radio some.... makes me sick! The lyrics are like radio porn! I can't imagine letting her listen to that.

Add me to the Radio Disney list!

I have 2 girls... 12 & 9....and although I am pretty tired of The "Jo Bros" I will listen with them in the car on Sirius any day over the mainstream radio kid porn out there.

They also really like most country music ... and since they have no choice they listen to Buzzsaw a good bit. And I have a few artist alerts for stuff we all like.

Long Paul does drop the F bomb on occasion though.

Oh lord! I went with a friend to a place here called SugarHollow. It's a stream that has water holes you can swim in, jump off rocks ect... My friend is the coordinator for Au Pair America in Charlottesville. We had her kids my kids and 11 Au Pairs from 8 different countries with us. I have Buzzsaw on in the car with all the kids riding with me... sure enough someone dropped the F bombon Buzzsaw as we are driving... I can't even remember who was on?

All the kids screamed and started dying laughing... geezzz!
