Default Sarah Palin uses Van Halen "Right Now" for homecoming song.

I was just watching CNN, and they were covering Sarah Palin's first return to Alaska since she was chosen as McCain's VP pick. The crowd was huge as she got off the plane, and as soon as she got to the podium they fired up Van Halen's "Right Now". Then she spoke for a while, and when she was done they played the song again.

I heard that Eddie already told the McCain campaign that they couldn't play any Van Halen music at their rallies. But then I heard that Sammy told them it was okay. I wonder if Eddie will be filing a lawsuit over this?

Here are a few recent news articles on this issue:

John McCain ended the big rally introducing Sarah Palin as his running mate with the Van Halen song "Right Now," and the band is not pleased, reports TMZ:

After John McCain used a Van Halen song during his big speech earlier today, the band wants to make to make one thing clear -- they're not running with McCain.

Van Halen management tells us the band had no idea McCain was planning on using "Right Now" during his big entrance in Ohio telling us, "Permission was not sought or granted nor would it have been given."

    Oops! But it's familiar territory.

Just two weeks ago, rocker Jackson Browne was similarly furious about McCain using one his songs.
Former Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar has said the following regarding Presidential candidate John McCain using the Van Halen song "Right Now":

"When I wrote the lyrics to 'Right Now' I intended them to inspire people to not sit around and wait for something they believed in but to go out and get it ' to make a change however they needed to," he said in a statement. "Whether it was McCain who used the song or if Obama had chosen to use the song, with the current political climate, the lyrics still have the same meaning, and we all need to do something to make a difference, every action counts. In fact, I still feel so strongly about this that I wrote a new song "Cosmic Universal Fashion" with a young Iraqi musician in an attempt to motivate a new generation to the same affect. I am pleased to be associated with the lyrics to my original song and the new one in hopes that both will make people move to make a difference."

OK, she can use it, she loves Van Halen, but she will have to come clean and admit she approves:

    -Teacher-student sex ("Hot For Teacher")
-Working in porn as a legitimate career for an ex prom queen ("Dirty Movies")
    -Backdoor sex ("Black and Blue")
    -Excessive drinking ("Bottoms Up")
-Adultery ("One Foot Out The Door")
-Girl on girl action ("Women in Love")
-Stealing as a way of life ("Running With The Devil")
-Smoking 'em special cigarettes that make you laugh ("Light Up The Sky")

Now THAT's a platform I could get behind!

Eddie really needs to stop being such a bleeding vagina over this kind of shit. If someone wanted to use one of my songs for such a thing, I'd be a flattered. Eddie, loosen the sphincter there bro!!

Look I fully understand Eddie's position here. He doesn't want to be associated with politics. Just like some of you here don't want to talk politics. It's not like he's running over to the Obama camp and saying "here, you use my music!" It's fine that he says no. It's his right to say no. What if they made a poster of Ed holding a rifle saying "I support the Republican Party"? Would that be ok? No. I know that's a little more extreme than a song, but He doesn't want to be associated with it. And we know how fucking dumb people can be when it comes to politics so, it's easy to see how people could make the assumption.

And even though Sammy helped to write the song, he's got a a lot of fucking balls to say it's ok when he's not in the fucking band anymore. It's a Van Halen song, that's a Van Halen decision.

After being asked to not play the song respectfully by the artist they continue to do so. It'll be a sad day for artists if...

You need to give it rest.

If you want to have political discussions feel free, but lets try to keep things civil and in adult manor.

Your posts are becoming more and more juvenile.

It isn't just this one instant. Eddie acts like this over things that have nothing to do with politics. And just because they play "Right Now", does not create an automatic association with VH and politics. I just think Ed should lighten up a little in general that's all. It's an opinion and nothing else (which makes it essentially worthless ).

Oh yeah.....Little Dreamer? In spite of OLO's soap box, I thought your post was funny and a little clever and unlike OLO, was able to see it for what it was, just a little humor. Just thought I'd let you know.

    I sure hope she's wearing a ................o wait a minute!

I think it's a tribute to the song and the band that people view that song as being positive. Motivational.

VH said no to McCain but then when Palin used it, probably thought, "Well, she's hot, so let her use it."

As I stated before, Eddie is acting like a bitch on this. He had no problem soldiers using Van Halen songs as they went into battle in Iraq. What do you think they were using the music to get psyched up for? To headbang? No to killl people.

She is a Van Halen fan and is doing it because she loves his music. I don't think anybody here is thinking that Van Halen is behind the McMilf ticket. When I hear that song at sporting events, I don't believe VH is behind whatever the home team might be.

I am sure if they paid VH, Eddie would change his mind.

Yeah, Ed should lighten up. Doesn't he know that VH female fans are the best there is? Beautiful, smart and funny....the best kind!!

I think Ed should be honored that she used it.
