    EVH/Lukather "Joy To The World"

This is a track from Steve Lukather's "Santamental". It is (surprise) a Christmas album Lukather released a few years ago (2003). Ed Van Halen sat in for the track "Joy To The World", which bares little resemblance to the traditional tune. The two trade licks for what is essentially a jam.

For some reason, the song is mis-titled at youtube as "Twist Of A Knife".

I remember hearing this for the first time on one of those "New Stuff At Nine" shows while I was working late and really dug it. I was telling people to shut the fuck up so I could hear it properly. Iv'e tried to buy the album for years but always get stimeyed. Did'nt he play on another track on the album too Chef?

What other albums has he worked on in recent years? I know Roger Waters was one. Lost Boys Calling for The Legend of 1900. Anything else?

From what I've been able to gather, Ed played on this track only. A full line-up of the musicians guesting on Santamental is available here:

I've always liked this tune. Sounds like they really had a good time on this one.

Ed plays on that track with Luke, too. (Twist The Knife from Lukather ) Not sure how the submitter could have mixed it up...

Funny how as soon as Eddie kicks in it stops sounding like Joy to the World. That's a cool track, I haven't heard it yet. Lukather seems to be able to pull a very convincing Eddie vibe when he wants to. Eddie's 5150 sounds good on this one.

Proof Ed still had that famous musical "wit" in 2002. I wish they'd put out some new stuff so we could see if he's still that creative.

Rehashed licks pieced together. That's all I hear from Eddie on this one. Nice tone, though...haha.

Upon my first listen to Twist the Knife, it seems to me to just be I Want Some Action with different lyrics. I knew it was the same riff (Action, this song, Stompin' 8H, Dirty Water Dog), but it sounds like they just took Action and slapped some new words on it.
