    Default "Beat it" extended version??!!

I heard some years ago, that there is a "Beat it" longer version with e exdended Eddie solo on it. I cant remember where I read it, but I heard it was a bonus track on Michael Jacksons "They dont care about us".
Has anyone heard of this, cause I'd love to find it one day, even though I dont like Michael Jackson.

Back when the song came out, I was working in a roller rink, and there was a 12" version of Beat It available. However, while there was some strange mixing and redubbing of Ed's guitar work added, it wasd not an extended version of the solo itself. IMO, I would not bother trying to track it down.

If it exists, isn't listed on the track listing for any version "They Don't Care About Us".

As VHR pointed out, of the various remixes of the tune, the actual length of the solo remains the same. There are no additional parts.

I remember reading that there were two versions of the solo recorded and Qunicy Jones kept the one that he liked better. So: there may be an alternate solo that exists but my guess is that it's sitting in an archive somewhere.

Correct, there were two takes, and the better of the two was used. However, the length of the two are essentially the same. When we first recieved our promo copy of the 12", it was presumed that there may be a longer solo, but all there was were extra sampled pieces of the solo dashed in here and there.

When Hollywood records somehow managed to get the deal to distribute the Queen back catalogue a few years ago, they apparently found the original recording session tapes. This is proven by some of the single remixes on each release, provided as bonus tracks. "We Will Rock You" for instance, is extended by Rick Rubin with bits of Brian May's guitar work that clearly is not merely sampled from other sections the original 45.

I actually heard it was one recording that Ed was to messed up on the free stuff and you could hear Quincy banging on the console to wake him up.
I shit you not you can hear it right before the solo kicks in.

No I'm not,it's what I've actually heard some people say.
They claim the banging sound right before the solo was Quincy trying to wake Ed up.They recorded one take of it than had Ed escorted(carried) home.

I've been a die hard VH fan since 83. I've seen and read so much stuff it is not funny. I rarely, if ever, see anything on these boards that I have not read, and I have never, ever read or heard that.

The knocking sound is a part of the solo made on his guitar. It leads right ino a "Eddy only" door opening sound made by his guitar. The whole solo is incredible and its hard to believe that he only did two takes. Listen to it and see if you don't agree. He was trying to make a door opening sound with rusty hinges after a knock.

Correct. Think about it for a second. First off Eddie and Michael weren't recording at the same time, so Eddie wasn't dozing off up until his part. Secondly, even if he was messed up in the studio and Quincy was knocking at some point I'm pretty sure Mr. Jones would have edited that out.

This whole idea fascinates me. You guitarists, have you ever tried to play while you were really drunk? I mean, I'm a hack when I'm sober. With one too many in me, I'm not sure what to call it.

That solo is brilliant; I doubt even Ed could play it if he were really trashed.

No, no, no. That is Ed knocking on his guitar. I know for a fact. It is NOT Quincy knocking on a console to wake Ed up.

LOL! That was embarrassing dude. I sure hope you were joking.
