    Default Is it even agood idea for VH to tour the world?

    Much as I'd love them to, how much money is in it?

    The European tours of 93 and 95 were not a big success, though they were encouraging signs. I think if the band had done a major Hagar tour (or the then-popular idea of a Roth reunion) they could have made an impact. But as it is, outside of USA/Canada Van Halen just don't have an audience.

    Does anyone disagree?

    Summary of VH foreign tours:

    Europe/UK:
    * 6 European dates in 1998, 26 UK dates
    * 8 European dates in 1979, 5 UK dates
    * 11 European dates in 1980, 5 UK dates
    * 4 European dates in 1984, 1 UK date
    * 14 European dates in 1993, 3 UK dates
    * 19 European dates in 1995, 6 UK dates
    * 4 European dates in 1998

    Japan:
    * 8 dates in 1978
    * 7 dates in 1979
    * 9 dates in 1989
    * 7 dates in 1995
    * 9 dates in 1998

    Hawaii:
    * 1 date in 1989
    * 3 dates in 1992
    * 2 dates in 1995

    South America:
    * 15 dates in 1983

    Mexico:
    * 2 dates in 1992

    Puerto Rico:
    * 1 date in 2004

    Australia / NZ 1998?

    Actually their 1998 tour in Australia was intersting in that they really played some out of the way places like Launceston & Newcastle.

    I would be shocked if they tour outside North America ever again.

    Just not enough return to warrant the cost.

    Default No

    I just don't think Val has that great of an international image for them to succeed.

    I agree...plus they really don't have to. They can basically tour for a year straight just doing North America shows....and make some serious cash in the process.

    Sure why the hell not. Couldn't fuck up their image any more than it is.

    But they had to cancel 11 shows because of AVH´s injury.

    A tour outside of North America, would be just an all expensies paid holiday. As much as I would love for them to come to Oz, the reality is they can make as much money in One show in the States, as they could in a whole tour of Australia, even with the Aussie dollar being quite high. I think a tour of Japan, however could be lucrative. Paul.

    Van Halen opened for Bon Jovi in the UK in 1995 as a way of expanding their fan base. Even with Ray Danniels managing they still kind of had that progressive-thinking attitude. VH is no longer that kind of a band and, in all likelihood, doesn't have the will or motivation to do a campaign-style tour. They know they can do well in North America with either of the two singers they were successful with, so that's probably the only touring we'll ever see VH do.

    As always, I'd love to be proven wrong. But I just don't think so.

    I have to agree. In addition, they have to be more fan-friendly with their PR and website.
