    The Hot Beef Sundae?

    Has anyone tried one?

    The Hot Beef Sundae
by Spanno on September 03, 2008

Yesterday, Serious Eats reported on the Hot Beef Sundae trend that's sweeping the country. The dish can be found across the nation at state fairs from Florida to Nebraska. The Hot Beef Sundae is comprised of mashed potatoes, roast beef, more mashed potatoes, gravy, cheese, and a cherry tomato.

I expected to see something disgusting when I clicked on this thread but I have been pleasently surprised. Its like everything good you want to eat, all together in ice cream fashion.

Reminds me of that KFC "Bowl 'O' Shit" from a few months back that (not surprisingly) looks one way on the menu and quite different in real life.

The fair season hasn't started here in South Florida just yet (November 20 - 30, 2008, and Oktoberfest here is a sham), yet I look forward to attempting to eat one of these things, armed with a plastic spork and a load of napkins. Provided of course that the styrofoam container is up to the challenge.

we called it the "garbage bowl" because it looked like Rachel Ray's garbage bowl....are they still doing that gross concoction?

that mess doesn't exactly look like the kind of "refreshment" I'd be looking for after a hot day of touring livestock barns

Hey chef, I may have asked you before, but where the hell do they hold the fair now? Can't imagine it being at Gulfstream anymore.

One of the few things I miss about living in Palm Beach County is the American-German Club's Oktoberfest in Lantana. Awesome food and drink.

Would you believe in a back lot at the "Festival Flea Market" up on Sample Road? That was the proposed site this year, yet for now it's at the Fort Lauderdale stadium west of 95 on Commercial. It's the fair with no home, and has been all over the place (I think it was at Pompano Park one year).

I used to love that thing, yet the younger crowds that seem to want to fight more than drink and dealing with the horrid traffic conditions in Palm Beach just make it not as fun as it used to be.

Damn, that's a shame. On Commercial, is that the same place where the Strikers used to play? (Memory is hazy)

It truly is a small world. Between the Sportatorium and Oktoberfest alone, we may have literally brushed up against each other at least a dozen times.

Yep. The Strikers...now you are dating yourself.

billy007 and I were discussing that as well, along with a few other locals. We remember many of the same events and occurrences from pretty much identical points of view, so you know damned well we must have been standing astoundingly near each other when they happened.
