Default Michael Anthony, fantastic bass player

K, it's late and maybe I shouldn't be posting this, but all you guys listen to this:

and tell me Michael Anthony isn't a fantastic bass player?!?! No, I'm not talking about his harmonies. I'm talking bass ONLY. His playing on this song is out of this world, laying the coolest groove ever. I don't know why PCTS never gets mentioned in defense of Mike's bass playing!?!?!

Hecks yeah! Mike rocks! Great clip!

Mike's got groove and soul. He can stay in that pocket and hold down that bottom end like almost no other rock bass player. He's a machine, but his playing isn't stiff and mechanical.

The Van Halen clowns were foolish to let him go. What were they thinking?!?

Also, REALLY listen to his playing on Van Halen II. There are some tasty licks on there... Especially "Light Up the Sky".

He sucks compared to the Van Halen 4 bassist. Wolfie doesn't even have to touch his bass to make cool sounds come out.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

    He is.

    And it does (PCTS).

Wanna see Mike do a real bass jam? Check out any quality boot recordings of his openings to the first summer ('06) showcasing The Other Half. Without Dick-Ed around, Mike thumps it up with the best of 'em. Believe it.

I shot some video of Mikey in Tahoe a couple years ago where he jams with Sammy on Bad Motorscooter for about 15 minutes. He lays down a solid groove with ALOT of very nasty bass playing. I'll see if I can somehow post a link.....if I can figure out how to do it.

not to stir anything but there is a 50/50 shot that eddie played bass on push comes to shove. he was alone in the studio alot during those sessions and it was during this time he first wanted mike out. it really wouldnt surprise me if it was eddie, not to take anything away from mike.

Eddie plays bass with a pick.
PCTS definitely sounds like it's played with fingers.

I heard EVH's bass playing on Sammy's album. I didn't hear anything remotely similar to the playing on PCTS.

Please come with some more serious proof before making these allegations.

listen to for unlawful carnal knowledge because ed plays some bass on that as well as the obvious material on 3 and the best of cd.i think its ed on p.c.t.s.and just because you hear a pick doesnt mean eddie van halen cant play with his fingers (he does with guitar)i dont think bass is to much of a challenge for eddie.

EVH doesn't play bass with his fingers. It has nothing to do with fingerpicking on the guitar, you don't maintain a groove while fingerpicking on an acoustic guitar. Also I think most of the acoustic fingerpicking in the 6 pack is done by Dave, not EVH.
