Default What's the worst Van Halen tease you've ever had?

Thought this would be interesting considering how much of a mindfuck this band can be. What particular instance or scenario got you totally wound-up only to implode and crush your hopes?

For me, it was 2004, I was at a buddy's place watching the 2004 NHL playoffs when I caught the news on here that Sammy was back. The forums were so overloaded I had to try for hours to log on to see what all the fuss was. I also remember the debut of "It's About Time" on the net and I fucking lost it, not a great tune, but new music from VH!!!
I even remember listening to those two dorks interviews with Ed at school every day during computer class from November 2003 onward, just waiting for the day it all came to be.

Sure enough, within months, the tour was over, ended in disaster, and I found out around the same time that Mike didn't even play bass on the new tracks. I was fucking devastated, because as a young VH fan, it was my first real chance to see Van Halen. Not to be...

So what was it for you? 85 when Roth left? 96 when everyone thought classic VH was back? 07 when Mike was officially gone? Tell us your story.

For me it's the excitement of Cherone joining the band. Yes, believe it or not I thought it was an awesome choice when I first heard it. I'll never forget the anticipation and excitement of walking into Lechemere's to buy VH3. Couldn't fucking wait to hear new VH.

The immense disappointment that followed was like a kick in the nuts. The songs and the visual that was Gary Cherone made me want to puke. Watching Cherone onstage was by far the most embarrassed I've ever been as a VH fan.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Roth leaving to go solo in their prime was fucked up at the time.

Stupidest career move ever, in retrospect.

I'd have to say the 2004 tour...I was so excited for that one. I got all pumped, dragged my friends on a road trip to go see them, and Eddie's performance was seriously embarrassing. I basically felt like I stuck my foot in my mouth on that one...plus my friends took time off of work and spent their hard earned money anticipating to see an awesome performance by a guitar god...and ended up getting the equivalent to some drunk 14 yr old playing his older brother's guitar.

I would imagine this would be the popular choice... This also gets my vote. I was in a hotel in Pittsburg when I was watching this... I seriously thought I was going to jump off the balcony and into the pool! I was so excited! And then.....

Tucson show 2004. I thought this was it. Ed has pretty much sunk to the bottom of "Smokin' Loon" barrel. I was embarrassed for him, pissed at him, and very, very worried. I was sitting in a position and could see him offstage in a shoving match (I later heard it was with Valerie's brother)

. It was like watching a drunk/belligerent teenager.

The worst experience ever..... I felt that Ed owed me a pocketful of money. I've never felt like that about a concert.

After Cherone was announced to be the (another) new lead singer...I pretty much had it with VH. I didn't listen to them, read about them for a pretty long time. Just disgusted and pissed. After DLR left, I was bummed - but was actually surprised how good Sammy was...and how much I liked the music.

But the ultimate VH fucking I got, wasn't the band's fault. It was the grand opening of the Cabo Wabo Cantina - VH was going to play and be there the whole few days. My brother got mint hotel reservations, plane tickets, everything...one of this friends can't make it - he asks me to come - he'll pay for everything. My fkn job would not let me get the time off...I was on probation (only started 2.5 months earlier)! I was SOOOOOO upset. The pictures my brother got, the people he hung out with......SHIT! I hate my job.

When we finally found out that Dave was coming back only to find out that Michael Anthony wouldn't be with them. What dicks! This band does not give a shit about the fans : (
I can't remember which comedian said it, about the current state of Van Halen, but he said right now, Van Halen is like a really hot playboy playmate with a prosthetic leg.

    BRING BACK THE CLASSIC LINEUP!

I can't even have an opinion on ANYTHING anymore unless it's exactly what everyone else thinks...oh and if I do it means I HATE this album, and hope it fails. Man some of you can fuck off...seriously. - BRETT

    1996 VMAs.

I was watching it in my apartment and went nut when they all came out to RTWD. The audience was going bonkers as well.

The second biggest had to be 2004. I thought things were going to go better now that Sammy was back and they had the 3 news songs.

Oh well, it ain't easy being a VH fan.
