Default Anybody ever try/eat/like steak tartare?

I just can't imagine eating raw hamburger. Ugh! I know it's seasoned in some instances but still....yeesh.

The only reason I thought of this was I was just watching Wall Street, and it makes a reference. Great movie btw.

    Hmmmmm.......

Not really frankly, it tastes like raw meat with some seasonings. It's good with the egg on top.

Hmmm. Well it's been around for a while so obviously some enjoy it. I guess I would give it a shot.

Just the whole idea is so strange. Raw meat, raw egg. Eh, ya never know.

In a word, yeccchhh. If man was intended to eat raw meat, he wouldn't have discovered fire. Or salmonella poisoning.

Steak tartare is awesome. It has to be done right, but when it is done right, it'll knock your socks off.

Jeanty at Jack's in San Francisco is one of the best.

Also, there is a raw beef component to Japanese food made from Kobe as well. It is called Shabu-shabu. You can eat it raw or cook it in a pot of boiling broth at your table. Yum, yum, yum.

Not really. Have you eaten and do you like sushi? Steak tartare is just about getting used to the texture. Kind of like eating sashimi or nigiri.

Nothing wrong with Steak Tartare.....one of the classic dishes....if done right, with high grade fresh filet, hand ground and seasoned properly with parsley, shallots, fresh ground pepper, capers and topped with an egg, you owe it to yourself to at least try it.....usually it will be served with toast points, so it's almost like a beef carpaccio on crostini.....

Funny thing about American the palate.....wont eat tartare beacause its "raw"......but will shovel down big macs and quarter pounders.....yeah, thats the safer route

Oh, I love sushi. There is certainly enough positive response here that now, I'd really like to try it out somtime.

    I would have never thought.

I'm in the midwest though, and I wouldn't have a clue where to find it.
