Default Hair of the Dog- Nazareth

I did a search and didn't see a thread so I thought I'd mention one of my favorites during my yute, Nazareth. This is there 40 year anniversary in the biz and they have a new CD out called Newz. Plus their lead guitarist Jimmy Murrison lists his favorite axeman as Eddie. I've only seen them live once but Dan Mc Cafferty could still belt it out with the best of them. I'll be picking this one up for sure.

One of the coolest sounding bands ever.

Here's an old Joni Mitchell song that they stomped into shape.

Nazareth - "This Flight Tonight" (3:24)

An immortal reading of a Roy Orbison tune.

    Nazareth - "Love Hurts" (3:39)

Their own tunes were pretty good, too.

Nazareth "Hair of the Dog" (3:57)
"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
    George Bernard Shaw

    Nazareth - "Razamanaz" (3:51)

Nazareth - "Turn On Your Receiver" (3:20)

    Nazareth "Carry Out Feelings" (3:19)

    Nazareth - "Holiday" (4:01)
"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
    George Bernard Shaw

They where playing across the river in New Albany back in 99 for one the free derby concerts, with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, we sat through the end of there show then the came over the PA and said that Nazareth had to cancel. Later I found out the Drummer Darrell Sweet had got off of the bus sat down on a bench and died.

I did get to see them a couple of years latter.

This fight tonight is one of my favorites; I did not know that it was a Joni Mitchell tune, good find Chef.

Thank you for threading that one up. Enjoyed them all. There was a time...I tell ya. Good ole days.
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

+1. But I remember it from a live version off some "Heavy Metal" compilation
that also had stuff like UFO and Saxon that is much better. I hadn't realized
they were so Sweet-like on record. Hair of the Dog also a classic riff.

Hair of the Dog, Begger's Day, Whiskey Drinkin Woman, Live Hurts! Man, I remember playing that 8-Track (remember those?) over and over again at track meets in high school.

Craig, Thanks for posting the vids. I still think that the cover of Malice in Wonderland is one of my favorites and Holiday is also a personal favorite. I have the Bugaloo CD and just ordered the new one which is a German import.
Another fav of mine is the album Sound Elixir. I'm just happy there still kicking it out.

Got the new Cd and it fucking kicks ass. Goin Loco, Liar Liar and Keep on Travellin. If you want some good old fashioned Rock and Roll give this one a spin. Damn, these guys still got it and Dan Mc Cafferty's voice is solid. Still kicking out the Jams after 40 years, Son ofa Bitch!!

My wife and I got to see these guys over in Miami, Oklahoma, at Buffalo Run Casino. Wow... they sounded so freaking good.

I'd picked up the new CD a few weeks prior, but really hadn't listened to it much, because of the AC/DC and Metallica releases getting ahead in the rotation.

That was a mistake. This CD is awesome. The Newz rocks top to bottom.

I was in the hotel next to the casino getting ready, and was preparing to meet my wife at the gambling portion of the place and then go to the show.
I step out of my room, and lo and behold, Dan the man is backing out of his doorway a couple rooms down. I couldn't believe it.

I had the CD cover with me and he was very gracious about spending a few minutes talking to me about the music on it and signing it. Pete A. walked up and signed it but kept going. Getting in the performing mode, I guess. Dan asked if I was headed to the casino, and I said, "of course" , and so we walked across the parking lot having a pretty good discussion about the vagaries of music and how I thought Dan had one of the best voices in rock. He was very gracious, and let me know they were very proud of the Newz CD. It was surreal getting to talk to him for so long. After a bit of walking, he pointed to the rear of the building and said "I'm obliged to go in this door, my friend, but I'll see you in a bit"...lol.

So, my wife is a HUGE Naz fan, and she was insanely jealous when she heard my story.

The show was just awesome. We were second row, but turned it into front row when the seats all got abandoned, as they rightfully should. I could see the boys were a bit surprised by the response they got. You get the feeling they don't see much of a big responsive crowd these days. This crowd was on their feet and roaring for most of the night, at least the parts I could see. Its a small venue, but it was loud and packed.

"Come to the Gathering" is a new song of theirs that is just insane live. Very cool.

Next morning, my wife got her turn as we checked out with the band. They were waiting on their ride, and we sat in the lobby and had about an hour conversation with them. Again, I know these guys are not the peak of the "music scene" these days, but they have a wealth of good stories and experiences that someone really needs to document.

It was just surreal to sit on a couch in a small hotel in Oklahoma and have a conversation with the guy who sings some of the biggest songs of my youth.

    wow...

    anyway.. yeah... Nazareth ROCKS.

Great story, I picked up this CD a month ago and have been playing it hard. It is a great listen. they played in Allentown, Pa this past sunday. I couldn't make it but had a chance to see them a few years ago and had Dan sign an album for me.Glad you had an awesome time. This band can still bring it after 40 years. The song " Dying Breed" hits home for me.
