    Default Classic title remade

So I'm sure everyone is familiar with the big hit Whitesnake had with "Here I Go Again". As some will know that was actually a remake of a slower version of the song they had released on an album just a few years earlier. Can see it here:

Ok, so, it would be extremely improbable but it would be interesting if VH decided to do the same. Remake an older track in the originals same spirit, say In a Simple Rhyme, and release it on a new album as a single. Never know, could work for VH as it did for WS.

Whitesnake and Van Halen should never appear together in the same sentence.

It's an interesting topic and one that I do think about now and then with other bands. Sometimes you hear a song and think it has something good about it but it may not be quite right.

With VH, I'm not sure I can think of a song comparable to how Whitesnake reworked Here I Go Again. The VH songs that I think suck, just suck. A slight reworking wouldn't work, they would need to be completely revamped. For example, Loss Of Control and Get Up are just bad songs. They would need to scrap most of what's in place and start over. Whitesnake didn't really do that with HIGA. They tweaked it just enough to give it some balls but left the overall structure of the song the same.

Now, if VH were to revisit a song or two I'd love to see a another verse and chorus added to One Foot Out The Door. That song is great as is but just too damn short. Same with Drop Dead Legs. I've never been a fan of Ed's outro solo....it just goes nowhere. They should have had more lyrics and a different ending. Otherwise, the song is strong, just not the right ending IMO.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Warrant redid all their greatest hits for an album that came out in 1999. I am not sure why bands do this and think it takes away from the originals. This is by no means saying Warrant and Van Halen belong in the same sentence, but I was in jr high once and some of my musical choices are a direct reaction to growing up in the late 1980s.
    Van Halen shows attended:

If they were going to do anything they should have Alex play real drums on a remixed 5150.

I can't stand the fact he used that Simmons kit.

Good call, makes the album sound dated too.

In a way they kinda already did this. Most of the music Ed did for The Wild Life soundtrack ended up on Hagar era albums. If you watch the movie closely you'll clearly hear (if memory serves me) Right Now, get up, and i think feels so good. i imagine a lot of the "10 albums" worth of stuff includes noodlings and pieces of songs that likely turned up here and there.

That Whitesnake video is bullshit. "Like a Homo I was born to walk alone."

I hope to god, that if there is a future for Van Halen, it doesn't begin by remixing a Van Halen song from the past. That is SOOOOOOOO cheesey.

I agree with the earlier poster, I just don't get the whole remixing thing...I haven't heard of nor heard the Whitesnake thing, and I'm thankful for that, but I do recall the "This Left Feels Right" fiasco that was the Bon Jovi album where they completely queerified their back catalog...any group with any self respect should leave themselves alone. Motley Crue did the same sorta thing with "Shout 90-whatever." It's just unnecessary. If you want to mix things up a bit, do it live, but the whole idea of having to remix things to "update" them, to me, means nothing more than a band's belief that their material is inherently dated and as such does not stand the test of time. To do so, in other words, means nothing more than "yeah, it sucked the first time around so we're going to give it another shot." At best it means "our songs are soooo great we can do whatever we want to them and you'll still love them."

If Van Halen has a future, I hope it starts in the present and not the past.

    Redo the Unrealeased!!

If they are going to revisit any songs they need to go back to the songs like "Big Trouble", "Fast Eddie", "Angel Eyes", "That's Why I Love You" etc... the unrealeased ones. Polish them up and release them. I'm sure they could quickly put together a whole album full of music in no time. Many of those songs are very good. Especially the ones that were recorded for the 77 & live demo.

    Later,

Are you fucking high man? I mean, I get high all the time, so that's not a bad thing, so maybe I should ask something else....

    Are you retarded?

People actually think they know how to write better songs/outros/lyrics than Eddie and Dave. What the fuck is wrong with this picture?

Where's your multi-plantinum, Grammy winning, arena selling band there guy?

That's simply unfair, man. The fellow offered an opinion. Just because you happen to strongly disagree with it does not make him high or a loser.

Furthermore, if the opinion bothers you that much, perhaps it would be better if you simply stayed away.

Ha Ha! Holy Fuck Chet! Give it to 'em!

and, FYI, a remix helps an established group along, and can breath new life in to an otherwise dead song. Take that to tha bank! Whoop!

Blues songs are made to be covered.

Van Halen don't have the blues.

We're talking about making these songs popular in 2008.

I'm sure that in 1978, Van Halen didn't have a clue what music would be like in 2008.

Good music's always good music, but popular music changes a lot.
