    Default Pickup help

I have a Kramer Pacer Imperial that my girl bought me for X-mas last year. It does not have the original pickups that came in it and while the ones that are in it are pretty good, the highs aren't super clear. I know the stock pickups that came from the factory were SD JB/Jazz combo. Anyone else got any suggestions? I'm not looking for a death metal distortion model just something well rounded thats got punch and clarity.

    Thanks.

An often-favored choice for EBMM similarity is the DiMarzio Tone Zone (bridge) and Air Norton (neck) configuration. I just put both in a Wolfgang and like them very much.

    Duncan's "Custom 5", maybe???

Curious enough to try the Bareknuckles "VHII", like Brett?

I've only replaced one pickup before so I don't know what to look for.

I second AT's suggestion; the DiMarzio Tone Zone is a helluva pickup. I replaced the stock bridge pickup in my PRS with it, and love the clarity, pick attack, and jumping-off-the-fretboard harmonics it offers up without being a death metal distortion clone...

Hi, for what's its worth I just built a VH1 replica guitar and used a Seymour Duncan SH-11 Custom Custom and am very impressed..high output but still pretty warm-sounding...

    Default Pickup help part II

Ok. I just bought a 1983 Kramer Pacer Imperial. Its in pretty good shape I just need to replace the tone pots that soemone removed and get the original speed knobs. Now someone replaced the bridge pickup with some piece of shit I've never seen before. Now here's my query, the original pickups were Schallers and Ive looked damn near everywhere and haven't found squat. It still has the original neck pickup and I would like to replace it with its counterpart but I cant find one. Any ideas where I can find one or any experience with these pickups that could be a nice replacement that is comparable with the original?

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've got two guitars right now that have stock SD '59s in them. Very versatile pickup with todays amps. They aren't that great if all you have is a non master 100w Marshall Superlead, and a limited source of funds to keep it in tubes and with a supply of new trannie's from dime'n the sucker all the time. Amps today are so versatile that the more vintage designed, lower output pickups can be a very welcome switch. For me the '59's give nice breakup, but have a nice high end too at lower settings. Not too brittle. They do have enough balls though, to really saturate the preamp when you need it to. The Seth Lover is also a great choice. My guess is this pickup would sound great in the neck position of your Kramer. A friend of mine has a newer Qing Dao built Epiphone '58 Korina bodied V (actually an awesome guitar for the money), and he has Lover's in both the neck and bridge positions, and he can nail that "Girl Gone Bad" Drop Dead Legs " tone through his Soldano Hot Rod 50. It's not a high gain p/u by any means by today's standards, but somehow it just sounds so cool and powerfull but with a full roundness. It's not peaky in the lows, mids or highs.
Pickups are such a personal choice though.
    Good Luck.
