The Classic 5 Pack and 1984

    Dear Guys,

When I listen to VH all along the night ( like this one) with a couple of cigars, I think we can be nearly sure that a record such 1984 would be released after the 5 first one by such a band.

    Whatta ya think?

    Excuse my bad English,
    zsat

There is no classic 5 pack, it's a classic 6 pack and includes...

    Van Halen
    Van Halen II
    Women And Children First
    Fair Warning
    Diver Down
    1984

“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

    Dear Guy,

What are you talking about? Are you saying 1984 stands alone? Are you saying the first 5 stand alone and 1984 doesn't measure up? Are you saying that you are smoking and drinking standing alone? Maybe you feel the need to talk about something but really don't have a good topic. Maybe you smoke two cigars at a time and needed to let us know. Who smokes TWO cigars anyway? By the time I'm done with one I can't feel my tounge. Two cigars? 5 pack? What are you talking about?
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

    Lol.....

I nearly pissed myself after reading that.

Zsat......not trying to pile on here, but I honestly don't know where you're going with your point. Are you just saying the band sounded more polished and, I don't know, "tighter" by the time they got to 1984?

If you're saying 1984 stands alone because it's the weaker of the 6 then I couldn't disagree more. It's every bit as stellar as the first 5.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

There's a 5 pack? I was always under the impression there was a classic 6 pack.

    This place is so confusing.

If you think about it each album from the classic 6 pack stand on their own merits as each release created a unique vibe.
