    Default Cleveland Info

Don't ask...but I am going to be in Cleveland for a few days and I am hoping for some local knowledge. We probably need a summer vacation thread where people who are traveling to various cities can post these requests but until next year..I am hoping some of you can help with some info. I tried checking out the tourism sites etc. but let's face it...when you need good info there is no better place than the links.

Here is the scoop....We are arriving on the Wednesday in the late afternoon and leaving sometime on Friday (probably late day.) We are going to an Indians game on Thursday the 21st of August in the afternoon but the rest of the time is open. Specifically I want to know where the best area is to stay. Any suggested hotels downtown? Do we want to be close to The Flats or more on the outskirts? And I am looking for that place to eat that is a hidden gem. I know the R&R HOF is overpriced but we will definitely be visiting.

So any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Help make my summer vacation to Cleveland all that it can be!

There is nothing to do in the Flats anymore unless you like construction. There is very little entertainment value there save for a couple of strip clubs.

There are many nice hotels in downtown I would recommend staying there. There is always the Rock Hall and Science Center on the Lakeshore and the museums in University Circle. There is Browns training camp in Berea and you can tour the Browns stadium. The Browns Stadium, Science Center and Rock Hall are all within walking distance of each other. There is also the USS Cod docked there as well. The Cod was a WWII sub.

You can cruise the lake on the Goodtime III. That gives you a tour of the lake and takes you down the Cuyahoga River to see some cool industrial parts of the Flats.

If you like beer than I would recommed Great Lakes Brewing Company in Ohio City. It is about 10 minutes west of downtown. The oldest Microbrewery in Cleveland and some really great food.

That is all I can think of off the top of my head.

the Flats are dead, over and done with, old and busted. forget you ever even heard about the Flats, because other than a few places on the west bank, and the Plain Dealer Pavilion (used to be Nautica Stage), there ain't shit to do down there. well, that isn't exactly true, there are two titty bars down there.

if you want to party go to the Warehouse District over by West 6th St.

if you want to stay close to the ballpark, stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. they have a bar downstairs.

there are some decent bars by the ballpark and hotel. Flannery's is good (the official DDLR.com pre-show bar for Dave's HOB show and aftershow for last year's VH show) and Harry Buffalo is a block over. HOB is around the corner on E. 4th and Euclid, and there's Corner Alley (a bowling alley/bar!) and Pickwick and Frolic on the same block.

Alice Cooper'sTown is gone and is now Local Heroes. i hear the food is good. it's across from the Prog on 9th.

nine inch nails is in on Friday the 22nd at the Q.

I like the Winking Lizard. It is a block from Jacobs Field.

My favorite Bar/Grill/Respectable restaurants are all about 20-25 miles east on I-90/RT 2

    Pacers on E 260th St. 44132 , Bistro 185 on E185 St. 44119, and Panini's on Euclid Ave. in Willoughby 44094.

    They all have websites.

Take a drive out East if you can, they'll feed you good, and it won't cost an arm & leg either.

Check out House Of Blues, The Agora & The Beachland Ballroom schedules for what's up while you're in town. I recommend The Beachland.

There's always Number 47's at **** %$#@*&y Lane in Willoughby if you just want to get drunk and burn one on the front porch.

Hope you have a great trip.

Horse Shoe Bar before the riots.

    Joseph's before the stabbing.

Even...The Blue Parrot (before that woman puked all over the Tic Tac Fruit game.)

The Village & The Olde World... wasn't there a Cebar's down there to, with dungeon maze restrooms?... good times had by all!... back in the day.

    Cebar's is closest to 90, i think. i dunno. no, maybe i'm thinking Mulligan's.

funny thing is, my mom lives on a side street at the end of E 185th, and i know jack shit about the neighborhood!

the Executive's Den is close to there, but it gets so damn crowded...

Maybe, someday... there will be a Lolly The Trolley tour, past all the old foundations of that lovely new riverfront community.

Went there ages ago and had a blast. What happened to them? They were packed when we were there. It was in August before a Browns preseason game.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Summer vacation in Cleveland...hehehe sorry kind of funny...

Anyway while your here there are some decent places actually...DO NOT GO TO THE FLATS NOT EVEN SHOOTERS ITS AWFUL

    Nightlife

Warehouse District is still going strong...Thurs through Sunday nights are good down there...Liquid is probably my favorite bar down there...also check out Mercury...Bar Flyy is decent for underage tail...Velvet Dog is better they renovated it and it has a deck on the roof which is pretty cool...also some other bars there that i don't really like but you might (Blind Pig has live bands every friday i believe, Traffic is awful unless if you feel like listening to a Shaggy song from like 6 years ago go there...Dive Bar bunch of wannabe OSU grads hang there its a mess)...this is all on W. 6th St.

(Sushi Rock good sushi place Weds. night is Tsunami night you get half off all the sushi...Metropolitan is a great restaurant decent price really good food...Blue Point has excellent Sea Food....

On W. 9th Bars: Anatomy is a decent bar...Map Room is more of a dive...Food: Mallorca great Spanish mediteranean food...Sunset Lounge next door if your into Salsa Dancing

If your looking for a little more mellow and older crowd try the Tremont & Ohio City areas:

    Tremont
    Lava Lounge is pretty chill,
Fat Cat's has great Jazz music all the time (and a great place for a meal try their Gespaco awesome-O
    Treehouse...good bar
Velvet Tango Room...owned by an Ex-communist/KGB guy i here really cool chill place if your taking a date
Southside is loud but has great food too
Parallax is an excellent restaurant down check that out (i recommend the Greek Yogurt for dessert)
Lolita is also down there owned by that Simon dude who was on Iron Chef America i believe

    Ohio City (W.25th)
Garage...Biker bar that has 80s night once a week
The Old Angle is a good Irish bar

E.4th (still some construction on the street though so it can be frustrating getting around there
Pickwick and Frolic...they have comics in town every once in a while and they have a real hip martini bar downstairs
    House of Blues
Vivo (Good food decent bar downstairs too)
View Nightclub...Great club some nights others not so good
Corner Alley...an overprice trying to hard to be cool Bowling Alley
(Quick food places around the stadium there are Harry Buffalo, Cleats good wings, Winking Lizard, Vincenzo's pizza outstanding food...

I would like to continue but i have some shit at work to do...if i have time later i will add more...there are a lot of decent bars & restaurants in the city

(I haven't even got to Lakewood yet which has a lot of great bars...about 5 mins. outside the Cleveland)

That is awesome information everyone! Not even the Cleveland tourism site can come close. That is incredible that The Flats are defunked! That is all we every heard of for years.

For some clarification...the reason I picked Cleveland is because my girlfriend is dragging me to Grove City PA for some shopping and I said it had to include a baseball game somewhere etc. It was either Cleveland or Pittsburgh. And the Pirates were out of town that week.

Thanks again. The Linkers come through again!
