    Default From Italy to Texas..

Well... finally my job is bringing me in a place I like: USA.
It's the first time I'm coming, and I'm going to stay for a few weeks. Yesterday I've been told that I'll go in Scottsville..
    What I need are suggestions:
    What is worth doing there?
Where can I find good guitar shops?
What is the local best food?
    etc.etc

    Any help much appreciated!!!

Well, batch...I hate to "rain on your parade" (so to speak) but I actually had to look up Scottsville, Texas because I'd never heard of it and I was born and raised in Texas and have lived here all my life. Once I looked it up, I realized why I'd never heard of it...

Scottsville is a very tiny town in the northeast corner of Texas. The population is only 263 (as of 2000) and the biggest towns near Scottsville are Longview and Marshall, which are not exactly what one would call "big cities" with things to do. My advice, if you're going to be here for several weeks, is to see if you can go to Dallas. Dallas would be the closest major city to where you'll be. If you're able to go to Dallas, we have several Linkers here that could give you info. on what to do/see.

Since I know nothing about Scottsville other than it being a very tiny Texas town, I'd say find some good barbecue places to eat---my guess is there's probably one there that is well known.

Oh, my guess is that in a town that small there are probably no guitar shops. Usually in Texas towns that small, there is a lot of farmland, a few gas stations, a few churches, and grocery store, post office, and a few restaurants. It may be quite hard to find local entertainment. Longview or Marshall might be worth looking into for a day trip.
    Meet me in Cabo!

What the hell will you be doing there???

I actually know that area quite well, and I love it there! I go there a couple of times each year!
not sure if I would want to spend more than a week there, but here are some suggestions:

Best part of the area is Caddo Lake! a really nice and spooky swampy area. this is used for a lot of movies that are supposed to be set in Lousiana.
    - Go to the grocery in uncertain and do a boat tour.. the owner will let you know that he's a close friend of Don Henley several times
    - Call John Winn for a swamp tour at night! Very spooky! you will see all the alligator eyes around you as little red lights!
    - Go for a Ghost walk at night in Jefferson.. very cool if you believe in ghosts
    - Jefferson is a nice little town with a very southern vibe..
Now spend the rest of your time in Shreveport on the Louisiana side in Casino's and Titty Bars!

Best food - One of my favorite places ever is the Big Pines Lodge, near Caddo Lake (State park), an old fashioned place in the middle of the woods on the bayou. they make the best steak and catfish ever! make sure to order their hush puppies!

Guitars.. I'm sure that there is a guitar center in Shreveport and a bunch of pawnshops. there is an antique shop in Jefferson with a guitar section.. the owner is a very old dude that makes guitars out of toilet seats!

Let us know how it goes!!

Hey Batch, sounds like you are going to get a great dose of culture shock! I know you'll be up for it. Have a great time! Don't forget to go to the local grocers and experiment with foods you've not heard of. Maybe you can bring some ideas home to your father's restaurant.

Batch, myself and TST are both in Shreveport which is about 40 miles or so from Scottsville. But, I gotta ask what in hell brings you to Scottsville?

PM me and I can give ya the run down on things to do here in Shreveport, guitar shops, entertainment, shopping....the whole 9 yards.

Plus, as KT stated....Longview and Marshall are great little towns to hang in. But you do have some options at your fingertips. You got Dallas to the west and us here in Shreveport to the east. Both easy drives.

Forget the wine-how 'bout some shoes-LOL!! 6 1/2 please...just kidding! But I do love Italian leather shoes. Got a friend that lives there now-already hit her up for some. I am shameless sometimes-sorry!

Anyway, we would love to see if we could meet up for dinner or something. Just pm HH and let him know your schedule and we will see if we can arrange something.
