Any Saxon fans out there??? I just recently have gotten into these guys and I really dig them a lot! Can anyone give me any recommendations on albums?

    Thanks,

In my opinion, a lot of Saxon's stuff is hit or miss by album and production on many of their albums was very poor (Power and the Glory comes to mind). Solid Ball of Rock was pretty good though. You'd be best served by sampling from each album because of the 'variety' of music they served up.

I think I read somewhere that Saxon was one of the main "inspirations" for Spinal Tap.....

I'm like you. I just started getting into them a bit and didn't know much about them. I went on ebay and bought The Very Best Of for about 15 bucks (under the buy it now e-bay stores). Anyway, it's a 3 discs and 57 songs so it should be comprehensive enough. I don't think I'll feel ripped off getting 57 songs for the money. Hopefully it's worth it. I'm looking forward to hearing more than just "denim and leather".

You absolutely must get Denim and Leather, hands
down the best Saxon record ever, though I also
like Wheels of Steel and Strong Arm of the Law quite
abit too. I've been into this band since seeing them
live in 1982. One of England's most underrated, and one
of my favorite, metal bands. Here's one reason why!

One of the first cassettes I ever bought was Saxon's Crusader. I have the title track on my Ipod.

I may very well still have that tape somewhere.

I'm through Disc I on the Very Best of box set and can't believe how much their older stuff (pre 1981) sounds like AC/DC with Bon Scott. Definitely worth the money.

I've heard of Saxon but never heard any of their music. I checked this thread out and the song w/Lemmy and whoever that guy is is a damn good track. I bought it at ITunes. I'd like to add some more tracks, however I'm not sure which ones to get. Naturally, the local music stores don't have any of their music-yet they have every copy of Diddy and Kayne on the shelves. I think I'll hit Amazon and pick up a couple of Greatest Hits.

I only got into their music earlier this year. Missed them at at Rock am Ring (Metallica played at the same time...), but I'm planning to see them in November together with Motörhead. Great band.

My vote goes for Denim And Leather and Wheels Of Steel (which has my favorite Saxon song, "Motorcycle Man").
