    Default Affectionate tribute

Northern Irish songster Duke Special filmed in London last year doing a solo piano version of "Jump".
For the complainers, this is just an affectionate nod to the band and is not supposed to be a copycat version to be compared to the original. I just thought it was a nice demonstration of how this song has managed to cross genres and here it is done with great humour.
For those who've never heard of Duke Special, neither had I until a friend told me about him yesterday. Check out his song "Freewheelin" on youtube also....the kid is pretty good.

    Anyway, here's jump.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

Sometimes I think the biggest tribute a musician can do about a song or a group is to just leave the songs as they were.

Neat little tune. Piccolo player did the best he could with a solo that is just timeless.

Why is that everytime a cover of a Van Halen song is posted here it normally receives a negative reaction. I just don't get it.

That was a pretty good version and the audience appears to have loved it. Good to see a Van Halen song putting smiles on peoples faces which I think was the original intention of the song.

I never said it wasn't good, but why doesn't anybody do this sort of thing with Stairway To Heaven?

It was good for what it was and I'm glad some enjoyed it. But being a huge VH fan and if I waere there I'd be like WTF;wtf:

I will try and find somewhere a version of Stairway to Heaven that was done by this old Australian geezer called Rolf Harris. It charted in the top 10 in the UK. So bad it is good, from memory he accompanies the song with a wobble board.

I did think you were bagging the Jump cover which surprised me seeing as you are such a good musician because as you said, for what it was it was not that bad.

Exactly. It's almost like bitching for the sake of bitching. This isn't supposed to be anything other that a musician having some fun. God forbid that VH fans would do the same.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.
