    Default BBE Sonic Maximizer

Anyone ever use one of these. I'm looking at the 482i. I've heard good things, but haven't heard much from you folks.

Any suggestions on signal chain order, settings etc?

    I use one.

for me, it basically replaces having a EQ in my rack.

It seems to pull out the same freq I try to manually pull with an EQ.
So could be hit or mis as to if you like it.

makes a much "fuller" sound for me.

I would see if you can get your hands on one and try it first.

I did a little research on these a few years back. Off the top of my head, without going back to check my facts, I seem to remember that the principle behind the Sonic Maximizer is basically the same as a compressor pedal. It pretty much does the job of a compressor, it just manipulates the sound in a different way to achieve a similar outcome.

Again this is just my recollection, and I could be wrong, but I seem to remember something about the compressor leveling out large variations in the amplitude of the total signal, and the Sonic Maximizer leveling out large variations in the amplitude of frequencies that are louder than others, thereby bringing notes out that would ordinarily be subdued.

In order to be sure that I'm being 100% tecnically accurate, I would have to re-research the pedal, and I'm just not too excited about the idea of that, so anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I use the foot pedal version of one with my 5150 combo. In theory I believe it aligns the high and low frequencies back in phase. In practice it makes your guitar sound fuller and brighter. Two knobs and an on/off switch. It was worth the 100 bucks or whatever it was.

    Ah yes, that's right!

Low frequencies move faster than high frequencies. It compresses the signal through manipulating the phase of the frequencies in relationsip to each other, not the amplitude of the frequencies. It "tightens up" the signal.

I have the old pedal board-sized one, the 264 and it's the greatest thing ever! My 5150 sounds like crap without it, night and day the crispness and clarity,

We've had this convo before about the BBE and the 5150, it's ESSENTIAL IMO.

What is your pedal set up (including the loop and the maximizer) you use for your 5150?

The BBE, the DD-3 and the Micro Amp are in my effects loop, everything else is in front.

I picked up a 482i and am expecting delivery on Monday. Am looking forward to hearing the difference described by you guys. Will update once I run it thru the rack.

I also picked up another Hot Rod 50. Looking forward to seeing how it sounds in a wet/dry type mix.

I recently added (today actually) a 382 I've had laying around and I can tell the difference, plus my wife wasn't home so I needed two knobs to play with for a few hours. I haven't cranked it up to "jamming with the drummer" level yet, but it sounds good so far.
