    Default Air guitarist loses toe-literally

    Air today, gone tomorrow.

The winner of the U.S. Air Guitar regional competition in Brooklyn rocked so hard during a daredevil performance that doctors had to amputate a toe she broke during the gig.

Taryn Kapronica - who goes by the stage name Bettie B. Goode - slammed into a metal chair 15 feet above a confused Williamsburg audience just seconds into her July 9 performance of Scorpion's "Rock You Like a Hurricane."

"My foot got caught in the chair leg, and as I fell over the chair, my toe was dislocated and basically all the tissue was totally ripped off," explained Kapronica, 27.

"By the time I hit the ground and looked down, my toe was pretty much gone and just hanging from a thread."

And suddenly, the Long Island City, Queens, resident who works in a local event space became a guitar hero.

As a crowd of more than 200 audience members watched in horror, mouths agape and eyes wide open, Kapronica - clad in leopard-print rocker gear - kept right on rockin'.

She performed for 50 seconds longer while blood dripped across the stage.

"I could feel the blood trickle down my foot and between my toes, but I refused to look down at it," said Kapronica.

"I just kept on air guitaring."

But on Tuesday, she lost the fourth toe on her left foot after doctors decided they had to amputate.

Despite the accident, Kapronica insisted she would represent New York, competing against dozens of other hero wanna-bes at the sixth annual U.S. Air Guitar Championships in San Francisco on Aug. 8.

Her minute-long Williamsburg Music Hall performance was praised by fans of the bizarre art form, in which competitors strut around a stage while pretending to play guitar.

Fellow competitor Tom Corsillo - who performs under the nom de rock Mitt Umlaut - said Kapronica's gutsy performance is already the stuff of legend.

"In those 60 seconds, she solidified her place in air guitar lore, and really became a hero to a lot of people," Corsillo said.

Dude, people totally take it seriously. When I did it, it was basically on a bet. I was totally goofin around. I got the feeling that pissed a few people off (my attitude about it).

since then, I've watched some youtubes and such and realized JUST how seriously some take it. This article included.

I mean seriously. You lose a toe and keep going? How friggn' retarded is that really? Really? Did you just lose your fucking toe and continue to "air guitar"? Did you really go down in air guitar history? Really? There really is a "history" to air guitar?

    Really?

    It's some goofy shit mang.

Haha, I actually find it hilarious as fuck. Did you see that 'band' "playing" ATBL in that vid? Hahahaha.

There's a World Guitar Hero competition, apparently. I don't know whether this is worse, but then again I can play a real guitar so meh.

    LMAO!

I know when I start thinking about some of the guitar greats, Eddie, Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray, I also think about some of the great air guitarists of history, like..........Uh...........Wait, it's coming to me...........Ah, fuck it! I can't think of a single one, because I could give a shit less.

I have run into shit at the house doing serious air guitar and singing, complete with Elvis moves.

I don't know what's stranger, that they have air guitar competitions, or that they have air guitar "lore".

They probably have a fan web site where next year at this time, people will be talking about how becoming an air guitar hero has gone to her head, and how she kicked her air bass player out of the band and hired her kid.
