Default My new family addition! JCM800 2204 with pics!

Ok, after having such a crappy work week...I got a great delivery today. I went to new york and new jersey this week for biz and knew I would be going to 30th street guitars in NYC. They have tons of vintage gear and several JCM800 models (100w and 50w).

I already shared the story of trying them them out and finding one that just had that tone and even the sales guy agreed. Again, it was weird that the 100w wasnt as ballsy but hey could have been tubes and other factors....

So, I went there and debated about shipping it or brining it on the plane with me. After much thought and calling Continental airlines...who said it was okay but would be my only carry on...I decided to ship it. After snapping several photos and then taking out the tubes I bought the amp for $1,175 (I talked him down a little). I brought the tubes on the plane with me.

I shipped the head second day (not cheap) but...it was worth it for a little better care than UPS ground. So enough suspense here is the amp...I think it is pretty clean with only a few rips in the tolex. As mentioned it has EL34s (converted from 6550s), original transformers, has had a couple of caps replaced. Would you consider this in clean or good condition?

The tubes all lit up in this shot...(sorry if the pics are blurry...(my iPhone camera is just okay) I put in my NOS Brimar 12ax7s in the amp...smokin! I wasnt sure which was the best place to put them as I only have 2. What placement should I do it for optimal tone? Meaning where is the V1 spot?

Here is the back with the tube covers on

    The Stack

    The Collection

After playing the amp for over an hour...I got it into the sweet spot and the tones, harmonics and beautiful feedback were glorious. I had serious sustain on the notes and it could sing for days. That is really what I was looking for and I think I found it. The amp is stamped with 1984 inside. 24 years old and I was in 10th grade listening to VH's 1984 album then! Cool stuff...my first older amp!

Since I am a new member of photocucket...why not share my guitars too! Enjoy!

My EVH copy (that sounds amazing)

    Nice find man!!

I would put the NOS tubes in V1 and V2, which I think should be AWAY from the power tubes -- but who knows with an old Marshall... you'll have to find a 2204 expert to tell you for sure.

    j/k

A good friend of mine is a lefty also. His guitars always look strange to me when they are on the stands. Not so much when he is playing them though.
