    Default Take your whisky home

Cool song, does anybody know for sure who did the intro? It always sounded like eddie to me but when I heard Ice Cream Man on the radio it got me thinking(since Dave plays the accoustic).

If its Dave hes better at guitar than I thought he was.

I had heard that it was Dave doing the intro...but I really think it's Eddie. No offense to Dave but it doesn't sound easy enough for him to play.

The acoustic intro is not that hard. Hell, I can even play it, and I suck at guitar..

I would imagine that the TYWH acoustic intro sounds easier to play than it actually is. I, obviously, don't play guitar so I don't have much to go on here.
But I would bet it's more difficult than say, the Ice Cream Man intro, which sounds like a cake-walk. The TYWH intro just sounds like it's Eddie.

I always thought Dave played acoustic guitar intros on Ice Cream Man and The Full Bug, but Eddie did the Take Your Whiskey Home intro.

That has Ed written all over it. The way he rakes the strings just before some of the chord changes... Eddie all the way...

Right on... and listen to the pick attack in general- very heavy/agressive and Eddie sounding.

Dave did the intro to one of the their songs, but not Whiskey. I believe that Dave plays the intro to Could This Be Magic?

The way he discussed writing the song with Ed on his show and then playing the intro might have been one of his shows best moments, and believe me, there weren't many.

I seem to remember Ed somewhere along the line saying that it was Dave that played the acoustic intro to Could thie be Magic? as well.

I of course could be way off, but I think I am remembering it correctly.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Quick question. I have heard many guitarists say that acoustic is harder than electric to play (or maybe just to get to sound good), so why does Dave play acoustic and never electric?

I dunno, some (me) would say acoustics are easy to play cause of the bigger strings, but I'm weird. Its just different, but for bending electric takes less force, most like that but more resistance can help so you dont bend past the pitch you want. But with electrics, you have to be a lot more carefull about muting strings. But to answer your question, yes.

ohh, and with VH never say never.

in CTBM, there were 2 guitars, ed and dave, and i think they both play the whole song. eds actually pretty good with a slide.

    What is that video from?

No pro shot available from the Dave era, huh Ed? Yeah right.

NVM: Saw that it was Largo '82 after I wrote it. Great show.

"Take Your Whiskey Home" is an underrated gem from a very underrated album. The fact that "Women and Children First" is only my 5th favorite Van Halen album is a testament to just how awesome Van Halen is.
