Default Windows Vista vs. Adobe Flash Player

I've been using Vista now for over a year, and after the initial "things are different" period, I really have no problem with it - well, not many, anyway. Everytime I have had a problem, signs always pointed to Adobe's Flash Player. Recently things were getting bad as far as deeper into the day things would start slowing down and getting real choppy, so not sure what it was, but figuring it was probably my old nemesis, I headed to the Adobe Web Site on Sunday to download the latest version of the Flash Player. Didn't seem to help, and actually when I was getting ready to close out for the day, things just ground to a halt - couldn't do much of anything. Turned it off the hard way and went to bed. When I started it up Monday, things worked for awhile, but then it was back to getting slow and hesitant. I tried a system restore, but then like a doofus put Adobe Flash right back on it! After the next couple of days of trying memory scans and chkdsks and virus scans (and frequently running into problems getting things to open or the computer just shutting off completely), I did another restore yesterday and have not reinstalled the Flash player yet and have not experienced any problems! Except for the fact that 99.9% of the websites I visit want me to install that Flash player (such as I can't listen to MLB games online or run any live scoreboards without it). So I'll have to put it back eventually.

Has anyone had a similar problem with the Flash player and Vista (I know, I know, "go back to XP") or is it just my wacky laptop?

This is the only fix I've seen. I have not had any problems with Vista, though.

    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Then right clicked over both 'Flash9b.ocx' and 'FlashUtil9b.exe', and chose properties.

In properties choose the 'security' tab > Click on the 'everyone' account, and the button called 'edit' and then tick the box called 'allow full control' and also choose your own Windows local account name.

Once you have done this for both files run the FlashUtil9b.exe and it should install and update and tell you to restart. Do so and you should find that YouTube and other sites that use flash now work.

I'll definitely have a look at that when I reinstall. Thanks.

I've yet to have an issue with it on Vista. Been using Vista for close to a year now.

Nope. I listen to Braves games at work on my laptop and have yet to have any problem with a flash player or vista.

I'd cut back on the porn if I were you. I know that the porn box is cool and all, but it does jack with your system. Seriously though...I'd cut back on the porn. Hope that helped. Out.

My computer runs much better when my brother doesn't have access! Porn rules, but it sucks for computers.

No problems here. And you'll hear no "go back to XP" from me. I personally really like Vista. My system has never run better!

Does anyone use an outside program to help keep their computer running smoothly?

I used System Mechanic on my old computer, and it seemed to work very well. That is, until they updated to the next one. Then it always seemed like my computer would run like shit, until I paid for, and downloaded the next version. Then it would run well again. Anyone else have problems like that with it, or similar programs?

Well, after a couple of days of running without issue, I readded Flash Player last night so that I could listen to the Marlins game and then followed Yerfdog's steps. Didn't really have any issues and started off today fine, but a little while I fired up the cbssportsline.com scoreboard, things started degrading again. But I think part of the problem is with cbssportsline.com, because without shutting down or anything, I switched over to espn.com's scoreboard and things improved back to normal and have been fine all day.

    Thanks everyone for your advice!

Yeah, I'm not into watching computers have sex either. I'd rather watch women do it to each other with sex toys.
