    Default Custom wolfgang rebuild

Getting ready to start this build .....I have a few things in mind but, looking for opinions from customers can also be helpful considering this will be for sale. So if someone wants to jump on it now they can have the color and finish of there choice. I decided to do it this way instead of ebay. I do not have plans of putting these up on ebay anymore because of the cost of ebay fees are getting to high, to the point that there is so little of profit that it is hardly worth the time.
Anyway, I decided to go all out and use a piece of master grade quilt I have had for years ! It is a 1/4" cap. I am thinking a korina body would make it a true exotic with killer tone. I have used maple on korina before and it sound incredible.
The quilt is so good and clean with great color I could get away with any color. I have considered doing trans black. I thought that wold be a unique choice considering that peavey never offered trans black. Trans black requires a clean white piece, and this fits that bill. Also considered a killer trans sea blue. [INDENT]Aside from that it will be fitted with all USA peavey parts from a USA model I sacrificed. What I will also include with the sale is the original body. That way if someone ever wants to put it back to original they can. This will be a killer piece I am also considering adding a tone knob and a capacitor and the option of a real floyd rose.

Without a doubt the most beautiful quilt I've ever seen. I don't think there's a bad color for that. you could do anything from tittie-nipple pink to doo-doo brown & it would look killer.

    Hey Scott-
Looks great. Was wondering if maybe you could tell me something. I used to have a Flamed Purple Peavey Wolfgang Special. Great looking guitar, but to me, it just never sounded as good as my painted Wolfgang Special. I'd love to have a natural flamed top on a Wolfie body, but I don't want to rehash the sound that was produced from the Wolfgang flametop I used to have. What do you think? What could be used in place of the basswood?
Eddie must think I'm a BOZO to want to drop THAT much on one of his new Charvel Guitars!

Consider a 1/8" flame top on basswood. A 1/8" top has significantly less impact on the overall tone but still has all the visual depth. (The EBMMs are all 1/8" tops.)

The Wolfgang Special flame tops have a 1/4" flame top, which adds a lot of highs and overall brightness to the tone. I agree there is a big difference from the solid basswood models. (I LOVE the warmth of the solid basswood models!)

Thanks for the comments. Ya know wood can be a weird animal. Andrew has a good point about the 1/8" cap. The thicker cap just produced a feel you did not like. All woods are good to me, it is just how they are used in combination with each other. I love korina, both black and white korina. That one is actually one piece too. This piece just happens to be a little heavier than some of the korina I have used in the past. That is what I like about this particular one. I have had a few people say to me that some of the guitars built now feel cheap because they are so light. They wish the Wolfgang had a little more weight and substance. That is a personal thing though. This one will fall right in between.
Another thing people have discussed a million times is one piece bodies vs. two and three piece bodies. I can tell you that that is a little over rated. I have used 3 piece bodies and they sound killer. It just depends on the wood you get. If you were playing a painted black guitar that I made and I told you I used a One piece body you would not know if I lied to you or not ! Anyway Korina is an excellent option for you. Also swamp ash is killer too.
