    Default PS3 - I'm losing my mind

So I got a PS3 as a gift on the weekend (thanks bro) but am currently going crazy trying to set the thing up. Has anyone set one up recently? I got a wireless network in the house and the PS3 picked it up and I enetered the WPA key. Everything seems fine, but when I test the connection it always times out.

    Can anyone help?

On another PS3 note, what games do you all recommend? I'm a sports game guy usually MLB the Show on PS2 and Knockout Kings 3 being my faves.

I got a PS3 last year primarily as a Blu-Ray player. I got a new internet provider a few weeks ago and had to set up the wireless connection again, but any time I've done it it's been pretty straightforward. A lot easier than networking my laptop, in fact. If it's timing out I'd say it hasn't been able to make the connection. I think that's what mine did when I'd put in incorrect information. I'd double check the connection/security key type as there are a few choices, like WEP, WPA and so on. Also, the key is case sensitive, so be careful of that. And, just to state the obvious, double check the key itself. In a lot of cases this'll be on a sticker on the router.

As for games - I'm not a sports fan, and only have a handful of games. Grand Theft Auto 4 and Half Life 2: Orange Box are both excellent. Orange Box is particularly good value for money.
HERE AND GONE by Haylen Beck (Stuart Neville writing as...) - "It doesn't get better than this." - Lee Child, "Highly recommended." - Harlan Coben, "Cancel all your plans and settle in for the ride." - Ruth Ware, "This is a book that lives up to the buzz." - Alafair Burke

your best bet is to hard wire it thats what i did and i dont have any problems(knock on wood).call of duty is fun for online, the only problem with a game i have is for GTA 4 online is just crappy, and i'm not the only one.add me to your friend list psn id:einnor00.

on a side note check out NCAA football for free in the ps store
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

I have the most trouble out of the PS3 when Im tryin to WiFi the internet connection. My CPU doesnt give a good signal. I hardwired it to LAN with the CPU and I have gotten 110% out of the gear since then. I use it for just about everything and it hasnt even hiccuped. My suggestion is to go LAN unless you absolutly can't. The PS3 has a weird WiFi receiver by what I've heard( I dont know if its true) and I have a lot of online freids the gave up on the WiFi too.LAN just seems to work a little simpler

Had the same type of problem when we were setting up the kids Xbox 360. According to Xbox customer support, our router was incompatible w/the Xbox. Bought a router that was on their "compatible" list and and the Xbox 360 connected to it w/no problem. I know it's not PS3 related but maybe this solution will also work for PS3.

Had the same issue with both our PS3 and our Wii. Changed routers and everything works fine.

I highly recommend MLB 08 the Show, the game is amazing especially with a high def and HDMI cable hookup. I will also be purchasing NCAA football when it comes out this month and Tiger Woods golf next month. If you get any of those and sign on look me up and we will hook up for some gameage. My online PS3 name is melolicious talk to you soon!

MLB 08 The Show is the best game ever! I really like the road to the show option that follows the career of your created player from the minors (AA) to the show (MLB). I also think the graphics are far superior to last years version everything looks so real, and the game play is incredibly smooth.

Another vote for MLB The Show 08, the game is just unbelievable. With the depth of field and all it just lives and breathes baseball.

Find yourself a 10 year old kid......10 year old kids can hook up anything electronic in about 3 minutes flat....you walk out of the room, you come back, and there they are, playing the game.

I don't use the PS3 unless I'm watching a BluRay disc, only my boys do. Now the Wii on the otherhand, I can deal with that!

I'm on the verge of throwing this thing out of the f-ing window. I call Sony, they walk me through it and say I need to contact my internet provider and key in the IP address, subnet mask, etc. I call them and get "huh, we won't know - call Sony". So I get all the info myself and manually key it in. Nothing.

Between this mess, and all the add-ons u got to buy. I'm starting to sour on PS3 and I haven't even played it yet.

Seriously, that sounds like a bummer. I stopped buying Playstations after the first-gen PS2, so I'm not really familiar with the new hardware, but that sounds like it defeats the purpose of a user-friendly gaming console.

    I miss my NES.

Have you tried directly wiring the PS3 into your router yet?

Just as an FYI, the wireless on the PS3 is not all that sensitive. I had to relocate my router closer to the PS3 in order for the kids to game online.

    I miss my NES.
Scotty, have you downloaded any of the old NES games from the Nintendo store? Got about 6 of them on mine, including Super Mario Bros, and it's just too cool!
