I'm so impressed with the solo stuff I have heard from Izzy that it blows me away.

I get the feeling this guy was the talent behind Guns. I wonder how many of those riffs Slash played came from this cat.

I like Slash, don't get me wrong, but this dude seems to me, to be one talented mofo.

    Rock on Izz.

How this tune ever wasn't top five is beyond me....great blues rock jive....great bass line. Just flat out great stuff......

Sounded cool. I'm getting the album now. I look forward to listening to the rest of the tracks with some decent audio quality. Thanks for the tip, "The Dude".

Yeah, he's put out some solid stuff. I just was originally adding to another thread but somehow this became the Izzy thread....okay.

The guy sure seems to know how to write a great bluesy song....

Ya just got to wonder, when you see someone this talented who walked away from a top notch band like Guns, was he really the talent behind the music?

Dude can play, dude knows how to write a great song. I'll enjoy it for what it is.

It's interesting to note that Izzy has played with each of the former members of Guns N' Roses. He's the only one who beared no animosity towards any of them. He was the main songwriter of the original group and there are stories of how Axl would snatch lyrics out of the garbage can that Izzy didn't think were good enough. I believe one of those songs was "Sweet Child O' Mine."
And, of course, the original Guns N' Roses never released an original song after he left the group. He's the one who put the blues influence into the original hard rock group.

Izzy was a reluctant "rock star." He lilked writing and playing in clubs. He hated the arenas, let alone the stadiums. He hated the touring life and the fact that it turned him into a junkie. For that reason, he seemed quite content to let Axl and Slash get all the adulation.

So he "Shuffle(d) It All" and did it his way. His albums are consistently good, albeit a bit same-y. Because they are on small labels, with little budgets for promotion, many people don't know he's been releasing albums.

I really hadn't given Izzy any thought in a long time, but now you guys have peaked my interest.
Any suggestions on a disc to start with?

I remember liking that first solo album that came out back in the 90s. I haven't heard anything other than that stuff. I liked the 'vibe' of that record

Sorry, it took so long to get back to you. The first album, "Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds" (released in 1992) is the best overall. This is one of three Geffen releases ("117 Degrees" and "Ride On" are the others. After that he released one album on Sanctuary, "River" and one on JVC, "On Down The Road."

After that, he went to download only (check iTunes). Of the three download albums the most interesting to me is, "Fire," which was released in 2007, is an acoustic bluesy album. I think it's probably his most personal.

    Here's two samples from "Fire":

He's not the sum of the parts, but he's heartfelt and doing what he wants to do. Hope this helps. Give us a review.
