Need Info on Les Paul to buy

I've got an entire closet full of Axis, Wolfgangs, etc...I'm wanting to venture out for some new sounds.

And thus am interested in a Les Paul. I don't know anything about LP, but I want a tobacco sunburst, made in the USA.

Which is the one to get for best tone, investment, and made in USA by my countrymen?

I really like the Gibson Les Paul Classic model....it's got the open humbuckers and some really nice finishes.

I love the Standard myself. I have a 2006 Standard with burst bucker pro pickups and it sounds incredible. I like it much better than the Classic... I had to replace the pickups in my classic because to me the 500T's just don't sound clean enough. The Les Paul Studio's are really sweet for the price... especially if you find a used one for about $800. The 490 and 498 pickups are amazing. I paid $1400 for my standard at guitar center. Used... no case. 10 top AAA flame honey burst. There are plenty of good deals out there. Shop around, play until you find the one you want, and try to get a good deal.

Ditto. Even with a $2,500 LP you still run the risk of a not-so-great neck that could have the "modern Gibson twist" and/or need an immediate fret level (likely). For the same amount of money (or less) you can buy a significantly better instrument in the PRS.

If you got the cash get a Historic V.O.S ! Those are built with the exact specs of the old ones and they are fretted by the PLEK machine for perfect fret work. Not only that you will be able to sell it later if you need too.

PRS is cool to but it is not a Les Paul.

yup, i have posted on many occasions the problems i've had over the years with EVERY gibson i've ever bought, to me no other manufacturer promise's so much and delivers so little. to my mind the les paul is an over priced, outdated antique that needs some serious updates and much higher attention to detail as far as Q.C. and playablity go.
The P.R.S. is superior in pretty much every respect....i'm not even that big a fan of P.R.S guitars (playing wise) but i have a huge respect for their quality and workmanship.

    just my $0.02

    +2

    And visa versa ...
I don't think buying a Singlecut will satisfy your craving for a Les Paul, just like I don't think buying a Les Paul will satisfy your craving for a Singlecut.

If you want info. on Les Pauls, I suggest joining a few LP sites and read up.
I'd keep in mind Gibson's recent issues with "quality control" and if at all possible, play the guitar you're considering before making a purchase.

FWIW, I think both Singlecuts and Les Pauls are great guitars and both should retain their value, if that's a concern.

    Good luck.

I have a Les Paul Standard Faded. I love it. Lespaulforum.com is a great resource for Les Paul information.

I need one too, but good luck finding a good one in SE Asia.
Even finding a decent Epiphone variety seems near impossible.
