Default Website polls VH's best album: Fair Warning Tops

I know the last thread I posted about this was not well received... But for those here who did care about it, here's what the MusicTap readers had to say about which Van Halen album was the band's peak album:

The forum for the best Van Halen album was an active one. We received 150 emails and the "peak" album was quite a surprise to me. This is how it all played out, album-wise followed by era favourites.

    Fair Warning - 48
    Van Halen II - 30
    1984 - 23
    Van Halen - 17
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge - 11
    Women & Children First- 7
    Diver Down - 6
    5150 - 5
    Balance - 2
    VHIII - 1

It was without question, the pick of David Lee Roth as the frontman of choice for Van Halen. Many credited Roth with the showmanship and rock'n'roll attitude of Van Halen, with Hagar being more a musician with the band than a frontman. Many said that Roth completed the package, while Hagar only added. It's official. 147 150 TAP readers prefer Diamond Dave. There were several that defended Gary Cherone in his brief tenure with the band, with one calling the sole Cherone album (VHIII) the best of the brand.

I don't agree with placing Diver Down over 5150 or putting 1984 over VHI, but hey, the results are what they are.

As for me, I would say Van Halen peaked with For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, but what do you think?

There is a difference between musical "quality" per se and whether you like listening to it.

Diver Down is full of covers and therefore should be down on any VH album list, but the originals are some of their best and it would be enjoyed more by the casual fan over say OU812 or WACF.

I would rather listen to Diver Down than OU812, but I think OU812 is a better album.

VHIII is a turd no matter which way you slice it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Lol....I'll admit that I was only crazy about "Without You" and "Dirty Water Dog" the first time I heard III, but the more I sat and really listened to it, the more I liked it, and now I love and appreciate it.

Have you tried sitting and really listening to the music?

What I find as odd is his/their answer saying they found the peak record as surprising. Fair Warning will always be considered Van Halen's masterpiece. The rest of those placements I don't agree with, but hey, what can ya say with only 150 peeps making their voice heard.

but I do agree with DLR being the frontman of choice!

Of the 10 Dave/Sam studio albums, Fair Warning is the least successful in terms of sales. It's only sold two million albums as compared to 10 million a piece for VH or 1984. Most casual fans don't know a single song from the album except possibly Unchained.

The fact it came in Number One is surprising, but I guess the people voting were die hard fans because had the voting been among casual fans or casual listeners, it would have been much lower.

Yes, and in that Masterpiece are the MOST Excellent songs:

"SINNER'S SWING"/ "HEAR ABOUT IT LATER"

One of the best "Two-Fers" in the Business ! !

But you fucking local shit-brained radio station will crank out "So This Is Love" or "Uncahined" I-N-S-T-E-A-D of playing "SINNER'S SWING"/ "HEAR ABOUT IT LATER".

THAT IS FUCKING UNACCEPTABLE ! !

    RADIO IS A TWO-BIT WHORE OF A BITCH ! ! !

Good point. I'm not one of those people who base my listening preferences on a bands sales, so that's why I found his answer equally surprising. But, you are right about the numbers and casual fans, and what appeals to them isn't necessarily the same as it would be for a diehard.

I agree and voted for FUCK. I also take Sammy over.
